The Mastering Compressor - Advanced Functions - TDR Kotelnikov GE

Hi guys,

This video contains general and specialized information about the (mastering) compressor.

It's relevant to anybody who knows a bit about dynamic compression, but wants to understand more.

The TDR Kotelnikov GE is one of the most flexible compressors out there, and it has excellent fidelity, so it was a natural fit for this video.

Consider it a hybrid review/techniques/functionality video.

It also deals with some of the myths about compression, especially attack & release.

Remember to switch to 1080p HD for the best audio/video experience.

PS. I made a small talko at one point when the attack shows 0.02 ms, that's equivalent to 20 μs, not 2 μs of course. Fortunately that's more or less irrelevant in the context.

Other than that, I hope you enjoy the video!

Good work, a nice insight into the Kotelnikov.

I'm a fairly simple soul, not usually one for hard- or software with too many parameters, but I've persevered with the K because it's so effective. You've explained in a very clear way a few more things about this plug, and for me the video makes an ideal companion piece to Dan Worrall's equally fine tutorial.

I thanked Holger for the detailed video. In a freezing tone, he responded:

That was certainly the most soothing gear video I've ever watched. Ever consider a second career voicing Sleep Stories?

Haha, well I do have a friend who says his wife likes to fall asleep to my videos.

Hopefully my videos will still keep the gearslutz wide awake!

Love the video (and the attire!), thanks Holger. It shed light on some things I wasn't sure about and has inspired me to dig deeper and learn/practice more with it. Can't ask for more than that!

Fabien's attention to detail—with everything so carefully considered and implemented—is incredible.

Wow, this is the only educational video i've watched to the end.
It is not only useful and very nicely made without any distractions, its Holger appearance that makes this video really astonishing.
You can trust every word just by looking at Holger. )
I wish every video was made to look like this.

Thank you!

Damn. The first two serial vox settings sounded marvelous on my voice. So now I need to figure out a way to integrate two Kotelnikovs with Precise settings into my continuous cycle of compose/record/arrange/mix-repeat workflow in spite of the latency.

Far too good work, @Lagerfeltdt

There's bad last quote character (has to be " ) right before closing ( /> ) of the TDRKotelnikovGE XML tag.
Copy it to notepad, fix that and it should be fine.

Fixed. Not sure why that " turned out bad, some kind of auto-formatting.

Updated PDF, copy+paste works with the last preset.
