Sorry to hear that. Same happened to a friend some years ago, and he discovered the thieves were old clients

How did it happen?

WOW!!! I guess none of us is really immune to robbery or theft if the thieves want it badly enough.

Hope you get it all back in good condition.

Terrible, terrible news

So sorry to hear that, Peer.

As many of those items are specialist and would be difficult to sell without attracting attention, I'm hopeful for you.

Wish I'd seen that you'd posted a facebook message, could've shared that. I've done a post on my personal and tagged your studio page. I hope you get it back and the scumbags who burgled you suffer a lifetime of severe tinnitus.

I feel the pain for you man.

I know how hard it is to earn that money we invest in all those gears...

Hope you’ll find the guys.

Peace

A painful experience. An old client seems the most likely scenario. Probably a job done to order given the specialist nature of the gear, and so it'll never turn up on the market. Maybe they'll appear of the gear list of some new studio.

It was really by chance and sheer luck. I live in Dublin, Ireland and us producers (which are few) are a close community here.

By chance a friend of a producer friend of mine was contacted by the 'thief', although he said he bought from someone else, he had the gear.

He had my Mackie monitors, mixing desk, and my Juno and 808, plus other gear that may have belonged to others. He got his details to meet and we got his name and address, I know, that's how stupid he was.

I informed the guards about this ( I had reported the gear stolen 2 days previous) and they knew of this guy. So things were looking good to get my stuff back.

So I got a call 2 days later to come to the station and have a look at what gear was mine and retrieve it.

Got back everything that was taken, minus a pot or two on the 808 but thankfully, still in working order

Again, hope Peer has a similar outcome soon.

ehm, is this a plug for a product or why are you recommending this particular company?
It seems there are hundreds of companies out there making ip security cams, so what's special about this one?

asking because I'm seriously interested.

Although in general I'm not sure if the footage you record with that is of any value when it goes to court, at least in Germany...

feel so sorry for the OP

Mart,
It is mainly not the footage/law you have to consider, but the
psychology aspect of a theft.
It is like "nobody is seeing" so I can stole...
Basically they only stole what is easy...
If they see some alarm system/camera it is not that easy anymore.
You know…
“I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
I can read your mind...”

By the time of my research Hikvision become my baseline for cost/benefit/efficiency
and they were available in my country, but we can also can not go wrong with Dahua.
Because of firmware problems, it is recommended not to buy from from Ebay/AliExpress.

I am not a security specialist and my knowledge is already outdated, but this may help:

Such a shameful act. Glad that youre fine though.
I've heard of studios being robbed at gun point. So most of all glad to know that you are fine. Although it never makes up for it, hopefully it was insured and you can rebuild. So sorry that it happened. Just bad people.

They just don't realize what it does to guy who's spent his lifetime accumulating tools to do good work in his field. And if they do realize, then it'll be a long hard time in Hell.
We support you, Peer. Be strong.

EDIT: well I just realized this post is about 1 year old. So keep my advice as something anyone should do in a similar situation.

Very sad to hear this.
I would ever recommend to put some kind of security when you open a studio, especially if you are on a basement or a ground floor. Usually grilles for windows and a security door are enough.

The positive thing about this is that there is no chance to sell that kind of gear online and get unnoticed. The business changed a lot and there aren't many buyers as it was years ago. So they will be forced to sell the gear to studios near your city.

You should contact them all and make a police report as soon as possible.

hope the best for you

ps.READ I don't know how it works in your country, but here where I live there is a police called "postal police". they are specialized into web crimes, scams and frauds.
If you have something similar in your country I strongly suggest to go to them. They can monitor any suspicious announce you will alert to them and they can get the identity of who is selling the gear (if he lives in your country).
