Best tool for time/tempo shifting in 2017

Hey All,

From time to time I need to take a mix (stereo wav file) and shift the tempo a few bpm in one direction or another.

I've had great success in the past with Speed from SoundToys, but they're phasing it out. (Curses!!)

I'm wondering if there's a preferred tool these days for really good time compression/expansion.

Thank you so much!

Can't speak from mastering perspective, but for post Pitch n time is the standard.

I've had personally good results with Wavelab pro 9. Its tempo/pitch shift algorithms surprisingly sound very good!!

Also Izotope Radius is really good. Available in RX6 standard.

Do you need to hold the pitch constant?

You'll have lots fewer artifacts if you simply change the sample rate flag on the file and then sample rate convert it back to whatever sample rate you need. Change tag will do that in RX or most audio file editors offer this.

Hey All,

Solid Mastering - thanks for the tip re Wavelab Pro 9. I will take a look at that!

Thermos - right on! I've got RX5 currently, and can always use a good reason to upgrade!

Bob - That's an extremely useful insight - thank you so much!

I've used it in previous versions of RX Advanced, and have been with both pitch shift with unchanged tempo and - in particular - tempo shift with unchanged pitch.
