New Lyrics

My first post here in the lyrics section. I am one of those people that starts with lyrics when writing my songs. I tend to lean toward "Americana" style music but not quite bluegrass. The ideas and words just seem to come out of nowhere to start. I have never sat down and tried to write a song or lyrics. Once they start I just let them come as they may.

Having said that, I was riding around in my truck today and this started. It is just a start but I like it so far-

Was out riding around in the truck today and out of no where came these lyrics. Its a start and going pretty quickly for a rough draft.

Finished lyics. Working title-

World Be Gone

In the sullen breezes of southern Virginia
the place that I call home
Lives a girl i gave my love to
The one I call my own

Her hair is dark as ravens wings
Smile could light the sky
her eyes they hold the sorrow
of a hundred years gone by

We were married on a Tuesday
down at the local jail
in a borrowed suit, her grandma's dress
a lace and chiffon veil

I left on the next day
musket in my hand
marching North to meet the yanks
and save our families lands

All I ask the Lord above
is to let me walk back home
lay m head down in her arms
and let the world be gone
Please make the world be gone

I've never been a coward
But I wont say I wasn't scared
cannon balls and general's screams
whistling through the air

Men fell like harvest wheat
Blood spilled on the ground
Every time I close my eyes
I see those dead mens sounds

All I ask the Lord above
Is let me walk back home
Lay my head down in her arms
Let the world be gone
Please make the world be gone

The Yanks just kept coming
outnumbered one to ten
a shot rang out indid not hear
will bring me to my end

I lay in this killing field
staring up at the sun
wonderin about my one true love
and how soon ill be gone

All I asked the Lord above
was to let me walk back home
lay my head down in her arms
let the world be gone
please make the world be gone

For some reason I can't read the first half without hearing the devil play a fiddle behind it.. lol

Sounds like something you wrote in a past life during ww1
