Which Monitors for Recording?

I am looking at setting up a recording setup in our spare room. It will consist of an iMac, Focusrite Saffire Liquid 56 (possibly) and a pair of Monitors.

I don't want dirt cheap monitors but I also don't want to be spending £1000+ so can anyone please recommend a decent pair of monitors somewhere in the middle?

Thanks

There are a few monitors in that range.

Adam A5X
EVE Audio SC205
Yamaha HS8
Focal CMS40

All perfectly suitable for home purposes and within your budget :-)

Thanks for your post. I've read that the Yamaha HS8 aren't as good as the older HS10's, so want to avoid these if possible.

Any opinions on the KRK RP6 G3's?

I've had great luck with the MX8 B2s from M-Audio. Usually run for about $500 USD, perfect for a spare room recording setup. I am doing a similar thing at the moment and definitely plan on sticking with these monitors.

I guess I'm on the cheap side, but I track my stuff with a pair of 100 dollar Samson Media One 5 inchers. They have a natural, flat sound. I send all of my stuff off for mixing, so 100% accurate monitors aren't crucial for my needs.

They're nothing like the NS10's. I own a pair of KRK RP6's, 2nd gen tho. they're ok, but they have a bump in the low end so you need to learn them well so your mixes will translate.

Don't laugh... but...

Avantone mixcubes.

Single, unported, fullrange speaker. Surprisingly revealing.

They're great for reference, but not to mix on. A lot of big studios just buy one to check mixes in mono, but a pair is nice to reference.

+1 for the Samson MediaOne 5 for those on a budget, the only ones at this price range
which do a decent job.

JBL LSR 305's. I just wrote a review in the review section. Stupidly good pair of monitors. $300.

A used pair of Dynaudio BM5a MkII's if you like a smoother sound, a used pair of Adam A7's if you like brighter. Both are solid.

You can get all of those monitors used for less than £1000! They all sound great and any one will give you pro results providing you treat the acoustics of your room and learn the monitors.
