Hi all . My first post here I think. Been reading posts here for such a long time I can't really remember if I've ever posted.
Could you advise?
Been engineering for a while and decided to get an RB500 just to experiment with a ribbon. Unfortunately I'm finding that using my DAV Bg1 is just too noisy (which I'm surpirsed at but then it is turned up at full gain) and every other preamp I have is just short on the gain level. I'm guessing there may also be an impedance issue as well.
Can anyone recommend a cheap preamp to go with this mic? don't really want to spend hundreds as the mic was only 90 uk pounds!
I tried it at first with the pre's in my Soundcraft Ghost, but they were noisy. I'm a fan of this little company. On an SM-7 and my Thomann Ribbon I can crank the gain fully up on the 8ch OMP I have and it has NO noise.
How about boosting the line level output of the DAV with another pre/channelstrip ??
I can actually get enough level to record as I run the DAV through my mackie onyx. It'a just that at 60dB gain, the DAV seems quite noisy.....even without a mic plugged in...
