Stereo A/D for desk mixdown

Hey guys, how are you?

Here's my first post

Basically what I need is a good sounding a/d to record mixdowns form my desk. Nothing fancy just good clean, full sound. So far I have been using a Terratec Phase24 wired to my laptop which has worked solidly but after lurking on these forums, I'm starting to feel as if I need something better

For the record, I work mainly with electronic instuments so there is no work with guitars or anything like that... its mostly synths and samples...

What do you guys think? Should I fork out cash on some fancy A/D or use that cash on something more "tangible" and useful?

hmmm...

what kind of desk are you mixing on?

unless the money couldn't be better spent upgrading the desk, perhaps throwing $600 at an RME ADI-2 wouldn't be a bad idea. and if you send any sounds out of the Terratec into your mixer, the ADI-2 would give you another 2 analog outs via spdif from the Terratec.

Its an Allen and Heath, I won't be upgrading it any time soon cus it fits my sound and style right now. Also, I'm not into this to pay the bills so directing cashflow for gear is a low priority, a new high end desk is definately out of the question. However since the demand for my work is on the way up, I want to give my productions that extra bit of goodness and was hoping a decent A/D would be a good investment...

The Terratec itself isn't used anywhere else in the signal chain except for recording the final 2 track mixdown. It's on a seperate computer and thats all it really does... I'm just questioning its "quality" because it's the last link in the chain and what gets recorded DOES sound a little dull compared to what I'm hearing straight off the desk.

Altho I didn't really care before I started lurking on these forums... you people are evil
