stereo mics vs. matched pair

What would the benefits of buying a stereo mic be over a matched pair of mics? Just the ease of setup?

You can use the matched pair for other projects that don't need stereo.

When stereo micing an instrument, sometimes I use an un-matched pair.

I played with a few stereo mics years ago, and went back to the matched (or un-matched) pair.
