mono vs stereo sampling

One of the biggest things I struggle with is deciding to use stereo or mono when sampling older records. (Mostly Drum loops or hits.)

I love the sound of stereo but sometimes a lot of stereo samples can get confusing.

Also if you choose mono. Do you pick a side L or R. Or do you combine the two and and get some phasing?

It all depends on how it sounds. Use your ears and pick whatever is most appropriate for the situation.

That being said, sampling in stereo leaves you the option of making that decision later on.
