2 421's
4 57's
2 octava 012's
2 AT 25's
2 of those EV mics with swiveling ball thing... i always forget the model #
A rode NTK
And a bunch more random stuff.

I like keeping pairs of stuff around if you cant tell. So im thinking 2 new SD condensors... suggestions? 2 blue baby bottles, and a soundelux 195. I'd really love some ribbons too, but if I pick all these up I wont have any more of a mic budget for awhile.

At some point I want to get a really nice vocal mic like the blue bottle, but I think I'll be able to get by without one if I pick these things up...

So what do you guys have? I have to admit I'm way more of a outboard slut then mic slut. Even though mic choice makes more or a difference in sound they just never seem as *fun* to buy.
Rode NT4
Rode NT5
Earthworks QTC1
BLUE Baby Bottle
CAD E100 Microphone

Much needed expansion of inventory for thee. Love the Earthworks and the Rode's.

Mike C,
you are a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very sick man!!! That has to be
the most beautiful mic collection I have ever seen. Your outboard collection is as
stunnings as your mic collection.

You should defenetly be a guest moderator and talk about all those recordings at
your studio, plus I bet you have a gazillion fun gear storys to tell..... JULES!!! where are you?!?!?!

and my tiny collection:

neumann/gefell
1x UM57
2x CMV563 with 2xM7, 2xM55K, 3xM8

strong characters, sometimes wonderfull, sometimes lacks certain modern clarity

sennheiser
1x MKH405 (T-Powered)

avesome bass response, I like it on FX type sounds... but it sounds nice on certain instruments and I worked miraculously on one voiceover, but it is dark sounding

Audix
CX101

my first LD, it is sharp and harsh sometimes, but it is the only mic out of my collection that has "modern" sound and when boosting lots of hights isn't and option, I have to choose this mic

After having it for two days and evalueating it up against vintage ones, I'm finding the one I own to be in the middle of all the ones I've heard. Mine has A little more low mids and bass than some of the vintage models and a little less top end around 12k than some of the vintage ones I've heard. I got to here it up against some of the models they have at ocean way and one at my freinds studio, also got to here and use the soundelux version. the soundelux seemed more hyped than all of the others I've heard. The one I owned seemed very close to the best one at ocean as said before one had more low mids and bass while the ocean way had a little more top. One thing very noticible about mine was the noise floor was much lower than the vintage models and the tubes weren't clipping the transients either like the older ones, also mine had a smoother and cleaner tone once again due to the unused tubes and lack of aging. Everyone at tele was great and very informitive (I drove to the factory and picked it up in person.) and I also got to here there U47's up against some vintage ones and in that case the vintage one sounded identicle to the new tele one, except for some compression artifacts heard in the vintage. best way to describe it is the old one sounds umm old, and the new one sounds new, but they sounded identicle in terms of freq responce and pickup but different in noise and dynamic range. Teleusa is a great company I see doing more bussiness with in the future. What string or chain i'm using for it is Ela M 251----------GRME1NV----------Manley Elop---------Rosetta 800----------PT HD2.

Whats in your mic locker?

MICROPHONES

Cascade v55 Tube Lg diaphragm
Neumann TLM 103 Lg diaphragm
AKG 414 Lg diaphragm
Rode NTK Tube (2) Lg diaphragm
Royer R-121 Ribbon mic
Oktava MC012 (2) Condenser
AT 4041 Condenser
ATM63 Dynamic Instr.
ATM41a Dynamic Vocal
Sennheiser 421 Dynamic
Shure SM57 (2) Dynamic
AKG D112 Dynamic
Sennheiser e604 (3) Hypercardioid

I really wish I had another 421. These are great on snare and toms period! The AKG 414 was modified by Mike Williams. Multi-polar patterns. My advice to anyone looking for a VERY high quality vocal mic under 5 bills. The Cascade v55 valve with new-old stock Mullard tube. It's at the Top of this list for a reason. I've also heard great things about the Studio Projects T3, and the new AEA Ribbon but I think they're more $$.

BTW Mike, that's museum level stuff. WOW. I've worked with a few of those over the years but what a collection and what condition? Thanks for sharing. I would have to say that collection equals my entire studio budget. I'd be curious to know.

I recently sold off my AKG C-1000 and 421's, so now I'm left with just my Superlux CM-H8A Large condensor mic, and a few old junk mics, and a cheap Shure for dj'ing....so what's the plan for the future..?????

Seriously considering a Marshal MXL V69 and one or two more of the Superlux's...that would make me happy....

as for anybody else, they can and do supply their own mics.
