Well considering the date of the thread you used the second beta.

The release candidates sounds different to me (smoother more present/pleasant). Anyway it's gonna be released on friday so you should redo the shot-out.

I'll listen and see which flavour I like.

It has 4 buttons, but way more than 4 settings.

There is no change in sound. Changes in beta versions affects only functionality. The sound algoritmus is same in each beta version.

Yes the algorithm is the same but from what I heard it more smooth. So it was tweaked maybe?

EDIT: they sound different but to me the ERS is more open and spacious. I don't know if the UAD is closer to the original (it maybe as it's more mushy smeary "vintagy" but not necessarily in a good way).. and sincerely I don't care so much.

EDIT2 : I have confirmation it was improved for the release candidate in the sound department (not changed algorithm but tweaked)

Anyway thanks for taking the time to do this I appreciate it!

The RC versions are tweaked more to sound as close as possible to the ORIGINAL SDD-320. The UAD version is IMHO not as close. Maybe someone with a hardware SDD-320 could provide soundsamples. I do have some but I do not own the copyrights.

Maybe better to move this thread to

Gear Shoot-Outs / Sound File Comparisons / Audio Tests section?

Thank you for making the files. Maybe someone with the HW version should make some files too.

I do have the UAD, Dim D and some new original files. I can place those here. I would rather have them send out here by someone else, because I am the maker of the software and I do not want to be the one sending out the files. But I can do that ....

Send the dry files to jelmet at gmail and I'll post them here and send them to my friend that has the outboard

I'm personally not interested in listening to the Outboard version, because I don't plan on hunting one down to purchase it, but do understand that for many, comparing it to the "real deal" is what reigns supreme; for me what matters is how the effect treats the sound on my end of things.

IMO, the subtlety of the UAD Dimension D is what makes it special, and the fact that it tends to warm up the signal is something that I didn't hear in any of the RC2 examples. I've been using the UAD version since it came out and have tried many other choruses that sound "heavy" on the signal and they also tend to brighten it too much for my tastes.

Opinions are always subjective. Every piece of gear has its friends...
