Need some thoughts with ext soundcard

Hi guys. Well i've done searching gearslutz about external soundcard for laptops and it seems i didn't found answers for what i'm looking for.

I'm planning to upgrade my PT8LE (now with mbox2) to PT9 on my macbook pro. With PT9 new features about no soundcard limit, any suggestion for under $1000 external soundcard?

Thanks.

Ps: i don't need too many I/O's, all i need a high dynamic range soundcard so i can hear clear sound for mixing.

Whats wrong with still using your mbox2?

You should probably explain it a bit more...do you specifically need something JUST for mixing? Or do you want to have the capability of recording and stuff as well? Does it need to be bus powered? How much output I/O do you need (i.e. just stereo? or would you like something with a little more outputs for sending to external devices and what not?)

That is surprising. I mean, considering the fact that just about any USB or FW interface should work with a laptop there should be a ton a helpful info around here for you, on top of the laptop-specific discussions.

What do you mean by "dynamic range"? I know what the term means, but in the context of your search it seems like an odd requirement. The dynamic range of all 24 bit converters is quite high. Finding an interface that does not meet this requirement as well as the need for "clear sound" is much tougher than finding one that does.

Thanks for ur reply.
I've mention it my ps earlier:
"Ps: i don't need too many I/O's, all i need a high dynamic range soundcard so i can hear clear sound for mixing."

I recorded my tracks earlier at recording studio with digi002 interface. All i want is JUST for mixing session, so i can bring my work home and do mixing at home. At least an external soundcard equal with digi002 dynamic range. I feel a bit compressed with mbox2.

What else is in your mixing chain...to be honest, i've never heard of someone referring to the output of the mbox2 as compressed compared to the digi002...have you compared it to the sound of your mixes at the studio after recording?

Agreed. I seriously doubt that the Mbox is "compressing" anything. I also doubt that the conversion is vastly different form the 002 at all.

Chances are that your monitors are causing you to hear things differently.

If I had a macbook.. I would probably have a good look at one of the apogee solutions... like a Duet perhaps
