beyer soundstar x1 hlm use

Hello,

I don't find information about soundstar X1 (looks like md421).
Is there application where it's THE microphone?
Bass cab?
Kick?
Tom?

What do you think?

Thanks

That can be a great vocal mic. (used to have one BTW)

IIRC it was used on at least one of Elvis Costello's early albums, for his studio vocals FWIW.

I have 4 and prefer them to 421's.

They have been used on kick, snare, toms, guitar and bass amps and VERY OFTEN on vocals. And I have many other mics to chose from.

I love them.

Here's a couple of photos of one next to a 421

I have a pair of Beyer X1's and I honestly don't like them very much. They are dark sounding and have a poor transient response. They do however have a nice lower midrange going on, good for amps paired with a brighter mic. On drums I find the MD421 (or a transformerless SM57) far superiour. They sound nothing like MD421 to me.

I'm yet to A/B them but from memory yes they are different.
What kind of music do you mostly record?
I mostly doing indie, punk and loud rock. For that kind of stuff they seem to work very nicely for me.
Do yours sound similar to one another?
I have 4 and they all sound a bit different.

I record mostly punk/rock stuff.

My two X1 sound identical to me. I bought one on ebay and got the other one from a friend about a year later.

I've gotten great results with a combination of a X1 and a Sennheiser MD408 on guitarcab. thumbsup

A good microphone if you get it cheap IMO.
