Cheap setup for tenor sax recording at home

Hi all,

I want to get a decent natural recorded sound of my tenor sax for home / practice purposes. It needs to be as close to my natural tone to work as intended.

Here's what I get with a Zoom H2 plugged in as USB interface :

I wanted to get an M-Audio Fast Track MKII with a MXL2003A.

The M-Audio could let me record some bass and guitar as well, and I thought maybe I could send that MXL to Mike Joly in the future.

My question is simple : is it really worse it, or will the difference in SQ not be significantly different to justify spending my money?

Thank you!!

Well, it doesn't sound bad but it doesn't at all like how I sound.

In real life, there's much more resonance to my sound compared to this recording which captures only part of the core of it.

Honestly, I'm not sure unless I invest in top equipment I'll get that sound that I want.

It probably has to do with technique as well as a lot of non-jazz modern albums make tenor saxes sound like kazoos. Much more so than alto or bari.

For example, when you listen to Kind Of Blue (yeah, I know...) you can really hear a lot going on in Coltrane's recorded sound. It's not unidimensional like on that recording I did.
