Here for the gear

SE2200a vs MLK v69

I am looking to purchase my first microphone for vocals. They are around the same price range, can I get any details/suggestions about these microphones in comparsion?

Or should I just purchase an MXL Genesis for $700?

Thanks.

EDIT: MXL v69ME*

MXL Genesis at Musicians Friend is $495. But I suggest you check this thread out if you're looking for tube. Similar specs to MXL Revelation at 1/3 the cost.

if you can find low price on used nady tcm1050 or another of the modest-priced tube mics he mods, the cost of michael joly's upgrades might get you in around $700. this mic will be multi-pattern, and sound very much like a u47; at least, mine does.

Genesis: Not all about the looks

MXL Genesis (hear it here)

I just got one. I have posted a few audio files from my first session with it.
I'm pretty impressed. Never would have thought a sound that nice could come from the same people who put out the 990.

I was a little afraid that people would think I bought the damn thing just for it's looks and it does look gawdy and a little ridiculous. But I'm impressed.

It is the first mic I've used that actually made my voice sound sweet. Even to me. Check out the post above and see what you think. But I'm proud of my Genesis. I spent less than 500 bucks and got the best mic I've ever owned.
