Red face complete mic set for new studio under $1000

I'm setting up a recording studio and want to get everyone's opinions on mic's that don't break the budget. I am starting with a 2626 black lion mod with 8 pre's running protools 9hd, I actually have a trident s20 as well. So starting out I will only be able to track 8 channels at once. Heres what I'm thinking so far:

cad m179 x4 overheads, bass, and vox
sm57 x 4 everything else

whaddya think?

I like having more variety in mics, more colors to paint with as opposed to more of the same mic. You have more to choose from when overdubbing or more options for layering guitars. I'd add a dedicated kick mic to your list, so maybe-

CAD M179 (X2) - overheads, tom, floor, acoustic gtr, vox, perc
SM57 (X2) - elec gtr, snare, tom, horns
Audix I5 - snare, tom, floor, elec guitar, horns
EV N/D868 - kick, bass amp
used Sennheiser MD421 or Shure SM7B - tom, floor tom, elec guitar, kick, vox, horns...hell, just about anything

you should be able to pull this off for under $1000, especially if you go used on one or two of em.

If the room is good, get a Advanced Audio CM-47 or that new Steller CM-6.

I know they aren't U 47's, but U 47 on omni infront of the drumset is INCREDIBLE!!!

So go with the clones and see what they do heh

For $350 you can't go wrong. Also, has potential to be a great vocal mic. Two CAD m179's would be a good choice for acoustic guitars and electric even and of course the sm57 is a must.

You might consider another multi-pattern LDC or an SDC with multiple caps so you can do ms recordings.

Peace,
min

1 pair of Little Blondes - $200
1 pair Sm57 - $200
1 mxl v67g - $100
1 audix d6 - $200
1 mxl 2003a - $100
1 sm7b (used) - $250

That'll cover drums, vocals, guitars, etc. If you can't make a good recording with these, hang it up and try painting.
