There are samples of acoustic guitar and vocals on: Mic sound samples

Is the circuit different from common SDC's?

The circuit layout, components, and capsules are different, so it sounds different too (operating principals are the same). In the picture below, MC3 is on top and a more common SDC on the bottom. i2 is similar to the more common SDC's (plus switches). There are samples of the same guitar performance recorded by i2 and MC3 on the page referenced above.

Quality:
After the industrial revolution and the dawn of mass production, brands became a way for customers to have an indication of what product quality to expect. We use multi-stage (component, sub-assembly, finished product) testing for quality control. In some cases rejection rate in the process has been pretty high. But nearly 100% of the finished goods that are shipped are fully functional and meet the specs. We are trying to establish the brand.

Please note that I am not here to advertise, but was invited to answer questions. And those are the questions raised.

I'd enjoy hearing the results of the test pictured. For the clips posted, Mic
One has more detail through the spectrum, highs and lows. Mic two seems
to lack a bit, but it results in a smoother sound that may be better for the
rough vocal style I'm hearing. The pictures above of the interior of the mic
look impressive. I'd hope the modders here chime in on the circuitry. Also I
would still like to hear from the above distributor about the return policies.

I will get the audio clips posted tomorrow unless Artful Audio beats me to it, I sent him home with the clips on a thumb drive, but I know he had a gig tonight.

Big Time,
Funny how I was doing the same thing this afternoon with different mics. Looking forward to hearing your samples.

Mark,
Sorry I missed your question. Everyone on this forum is serious about recording and considered artist/engineer. For such people our return policy is try it for 7 days, if you like to return it, your only cost is postage. By the way, you can refer to me by my name. Friends call me “Kam”. Nice to meet you here. Re Moders; I got an email about supplying QC rejects for mods. I would be happy to do that. I’ll figure out a good way.

Heading for one of Chicago’s cool Halloween bashes. They bought a used car and burned it in the yard for the effect last year. I’m taking my Camcorder this year (no .. its not a KAMcorder!).

Thanks for the response. I see gold mesh on the lolipop capsules and a red
colored body on the ribbon. Are those newer designs or just on aesthetics?

Fingered Guitar 1-3 - I had an idea that rather than try to guess which mic is which..maybe vote on "each set" of clips using a 1-5 rating with 5 being the clip you would most likely use down to 1 being the clip you would least likely use....at the end the mic with the highest score would be winner for that set of clips...and of course I will reveal the mic list..just a thought

A vocal and acoustic track (together) using the MC3, small diaphram on acoustic, large on the vox, would be great.

2 sounds the best to me out of the acoustic and the vocal clips. 3 seemed "small" and probably was my least favorite, and 5 was just weird. On acoustic I didn't think the differences were that large, but on the vocals they all seemed very different to me. 4 has a strangely placed bump somewhere in the midrange and sounded awkward to me on the vocals. 2 just seemed the most open and crisp on all of the clips I listened to.

A little behind on this thread, but I wanted to drop in and say that the ST2 is one of my favorite all around mics. It has all but replaced my 58 for screamed/growled vocals, snare, electric guitar and I've used it on tambourine as well. Only have one for the now, so I haven't tried it on toms, but I plan on getting one or two more and trying it out on toms, or anywhere else I can use it.

props to anyone who can shed light on the KAM R3, and what it is like next to similarly priced ribbons like the GAP R1

I grabbed their ribbon simulator 2face mic on a whim. Liked it on the keyboard amp, trying it on guitar this weekend.

Also have the Kam Crystal. Haven't found a use for it yet.

Are you still happy with the 2face? How does it compare to your other mics?

Yes I am. I don't think it really replaces a ribbon, but it does behave in a similar way and I find it useful for location recording (taming shrill guitar tones, warms up amped synths live, etc.). Takes a high SPL and not nearly as fragile as a ribbon so its in my portable kit.

I've had more time to work with the ST2 outside of just drums and screaming. Not only has it proven itself in just bout every situation I've tried it, but it's totally removed any desire I had for an SM7b. That is not to say I feel that it sounds like an SM7b, but that it is useful in precisely the same situations, and thus I do not have to lust after an SM7b for, say, situations where I'm recording a client in a lively room. The proximity effect, as with all dynamic mics, is pretty intense but a foam windscreen and or a pop filter keeping the client from right off the mic. I recently used it in a session with a rapper who only had a wood-floored room to record in. My LDC was a bit too sensitive but the ST2 had a broad enough frequency range to accommodate the focus on vocals without sounding like a garage recording, but it was more than directional enough to kill the reflections from around the room. In one day it became my go to mic for situations where I need something directional because the room or client is not ideal.

Kam i2

I've got a couple of the Kam i2 mics. I used them for the overheads on our drum kit. If your interested in hearing them you can look up our bands music. Were on facebook and myspace. Just search Reverb Adrenaline. Of course they have compression and reverb on them too. For the most part we were very happy with them. They are built well and did the job we needed them to do. The fact that they came with two different capsules was a plus too. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a set of budget overhead mics.
