Lightest Electric Guitar

Is the yamaha rgx a2 the lightest guitar at 5 1/2 pounds or is there something even lighter? My back is done and I need something super light that feel like Im not carrying anything

I didn't see the weight in specs but the Gibson Melodymaker is a light guitar. Can't say for sure if it is lighter. Gibson SG can be about 6lbs.

That Yamaha is even lighter than a Steinberg... go figure.

The original Fly is 4 1/4, carbon fiber body.

Always seemed freakishly light to me, but the tone secret is the rigidity. Carbon fiber is much more rigid than wood, so even without mass it can produce lots of sustain.

yeah, the fly's are gonna be your best bet it the yamaha is too heavy. at least for one that doesn't suck like those crappy traveler style guitars.

I like my RGX-A2

plays nicely, and is light!

I think the Joan Jett signature gibson is < 5 lbs.

I have a old Japanese knockoff (Aria) of a Telecaster Thinline (semi-hollow) that's quite light, though I've never weighed it. You might check out some semi-hollows if that sound has any appeal at all.

PRS Mira X and Starla X guitars are very light.

The new stupid-limited-edition (1,000 units total) Empress Telecaster from Fender is allegedly ridiculously light.

The Danelectros are also light, but I never weighed one. I have one, and a Melodymaker, these are the lightest guitars that I own. Try one of the newer support straps though, the kind that spread the weight over both shoulders. Another thought would be that Chiquita travel guitar.... small and pretty cool looking yellow/orange thing. I saw ZZ Top using it back in the 80s or 90s.

My Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker (the 2003 issue) is without a doubt the lightest electric guitar I have ever played:

My Franklin Cash "Mad-O-Caster" is less than 6 lbs.
Body and neck made of Black Limba, Schaller Hannes bridge (very light too).

Not as light as a Parker but not much heavier.
Very different, I dig both.

I have a 62 Melody Maker (2 pickup version) that seems thin and light. Plays great, sounds great. Highly recommended.

Cheers,

Otto
