simple instrument cable splitter?

Hey gang, I'm wondering if it's OK to make an intrument cable splitter that will not degrade the sound of the bass.
What I want to do, is use my pre's instrument DI's, but split the signal before the DI, one signal will go to the bass amp, and one to the PRe's DI. I want to do this so that the Bass player can feel the air out of the speakers for simple monitoring and avoid using headphones. I will be using most of DI signal for the recording.

Is this workable with a Y cable? Wnated to know what you think before soldering up a new cable.
Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!
Dave

DI boxes are splitters actually, they have through output, use that for the amp.

Sorry, I missread the question. I think You could make the cable or use pres
second unbalanced output if it has one.

Thanks man, but the problem is that it seems the line level out of the pre wont drive the amp properly. I think I'll just wire up a Y cable so I can get the instrument level signal driectly to the amp and see what happens.
