Frustrated with Apogee - no 'in between/all in one' soundcard!!

I'm just sounding off guys and gals.

Apogee one - no digital input
Duet - no digital input
Ensemble - no MIDI

I have a mac, want an Apogee as they integrate beautifully but there isn't an Apogee card that has it all. Seeing as they are mac focused i find it strange their range isn't as inclusive. I find myself drifting towards a cheapo UA-25EX which has digital in, midi, direct moniting etc.....

i don't understand what there is to be frustrated about

but anyways..

the rme fireface 400 has everything you're asking for

great conversion, 2 decent preamps, digital inputs, midi, clock

you can even find an rme fireface 800 for $1100 on ebay if you're lucky

My thread title states; i am frustrated with apogee.

RE the fireface;
Today 01:07 PM - " The RMC UC is looking good right at the minute.... "
(i meant rmE but you get my point. It's USB so won't take up the firewire port i said that's taken up Today 01:55 PM)

when travelling, what is it you need midi for more than a keyboard?

The UC is the new USB version of the Fireface. I made typo

Thanks RE daisy chaining. From what i understand, it's not a great idea to daisy chain audio devices if your audio is serious.

no, just if its funny

but in all seriousness, you wont really run into any problems on the audio front, just make sure your audio device is the first one plugged into the computer, and your other firewire device is daisy chained into the interface

I swear, they didn't put digital I/O on the One/Duet, just so you can't use it on a PC. It is such a basic feature these days, I can't see any reason for it not to have it.

With digital I/O, you don't need anything great, you could add a cheaper card, it is just binary, no conversion so you can get around that. Midi is super cheap to add.

I understand what you are saying, these devices should have these things and for the money, there is no reason why they shouldn't be all in one. I know apogee isn't Mac only in it's entire product line but I find Mac based products to be frustrating, even if they are quality.

That's the vent i was hoping to hear. Yep, agree. I feel better today.

I'm yet to overload my imac even with testing large projects with lots of plugs. Mixing is a breeze. No it's not as 'serious' as a mac pro but the cost doesn't justify the needs. The new icore CPU's are quite comparable to the low end serious mac pro's anyhow.. I'd like the expansion for a PCI card but this thread isn't about the machine anyway.
