My Setup is lacking...everything

Well except one Oktava MK-219 Microphone. Other than that I've got a Macbook Pro and a couple guitars. I want to record a simple rock setup (i.e. Drums, amps, vocals, etc) into my macbook. I want a warm sound that will sound better than digital demos. Can someone direct to the right place. I need monitors, ad/da conversion..interface, a couple more mics, and some nice pres.

-I've got a budget of about $2000
-Considering D.I.Y. pres and starting a lunchbox
-I'm gonna have Joly mod my mk219.. maybe i'll get some cheaper MXL and have him mod them
-I need to be able to send at least 4 mics into my computer (drums, live play)
Considering (mackie onyx 1220i, or apogee duet and add a mixer at some point into stereo)
Can someone reccomend a decent setup?? I need again monitors, interface, mics and pre ideas. I totally open to suggestions.

P.S. I know these have been asked before, but despite my endless forum searching I can't find any feedback on the new mackie onyx-i mixers.. What's up with that?

Thanks,
Brice

2000 is a bit slim for even a "decent" setup... but lets see what we can do...

SM57's work wonders on pretty much anything, and for a budget, will make a great addition to your MK-219. Can buy for under $100

Far as AD/DA is concerned, if you want to run Pro Tools get yourself a digi002. 4 channels of preamplification, 8 channels AD/DA. Used on ebay--- ~$500

Im a big fan of the KRK VXT series monitors. Blows away the M-Audio or mackie ones, and you can the the 4"'s used for around $450 for the pair.

Then get a nice pair of condenser microphones and you can make some records. Maybe get another 219 to give you stereo mic'ing possibilities.

Then with the remaining cash i'd get a UA solo 610 and call it a day

Interface. M-Audio Profire 2626. $550.
Monitors. Yamaha HS80 pair. $550.
Mics. SM57x2, $150 (used). SM7B/AT4050, $350. Oktava mk-012 pair $300 (used).
Cables. for monitors. for mics. Total $50.
Stands. $100.

=2050

I wouldn't think about extra pres at this point. I wouldn't think about doing mods to your mics at this point.

When you will have some extra $$$ the first thing to do is some room treatment. And the Steven Slate Drums is also a good idea.

Thanks for the response everybody. I'm still curious about the mackie onyx mixer. Are the drivers decent? Compared to the apogee (i know it won't be as good)? I will need to record live drums (with 4 mics). Is there a mixer you folks can recommend that I can pair with the duet?

Oh and another thing. I will be using Logic, I don't care for pro tools. I just need some nice, honest conversion.

maybe you should check out the echo audiofire (i keep hearing it's very close to quality of converters of the duet) and a nice 4 channel pre like a used ssl alpha vhdv or a sytek mpx-4a
