I'm a homemade rack builder too. I use 1 1/2" red oak for the frame/rails and 3/4" pine for the top, sides and bottom. They look pretty good imo.

My dad and i were thinking of building a channel strip. What did you use?

thats funny I just got through building two 16 space racks and two 4 space racks, bought everything at Lowes. I just dusted off, walked in the house, sat down and read this post.

next weekend I will build my new monitors, I've been piecing components together for a while and now all I need is some MDF thumbsup

My only suggestion would to purchase actual steel rack rails, drilled and tapped. Wood rails strip out really fast!

did you just use one of hte bottom holes on a pivot? i have been thinking about doing this OR making a sliding rack so it slides outwards to access the back [but the cabinet itself stays in place]
