AEA R-84 Mic w/ 002 Pre?

Hey Guys,

I know ribbon mics require a really clean preamp with a lot of headroom - And that the mic/pre relationship can change the sound drastically. With that said, do you think the Digi 002 mic preamps would sound alright with it? Of course, you could do better than those pres, but I'd like to know if I'll be able to get a lot out of the mic. Has anyone used their 002 with a Coles, Royer (not 122), or better yet, the mic I'll be getting, an AEA R-84?

002 SPECS:

THD+N @ 40 dB gain (mic input) @ 1 kHz:
Inputs 1-4: 0.004% @ 1kHz, -1dBFS after 40 dB gain

The R84 performs fine with preamps having about +60dB or higher of gain. It appears it would be fine with the 002 specs you've listed.

Should be great unless you're recording very quiet sources.
