poor mans Icon?big box of bcf/bcr 2000s

http://www.babkubwa.com/BigBcontrolDesk.jpg

I'm thinking of putting this idea together. cheap if nothing else - never mind the quality, feel the width!

The BCR2000/BCF2000 should cost less than Β£500 altogether, 2nd hand from ebay. Would then just be a matter of removing the plastic side panels and linking them all together.

Not sure how much it would cost me to make this desk around it all.

Anybody have any experience of linking several BCR/BCFs together? I'd be using it to control Ableton Live on a Mac Book Pro.

Second that! Your nutz but the idea and picture are good!
Only... are you going to run it on a mac or windows pc? I know that the Rotary edition has issue with midi mapping.
And you want to use this with Protools? You to let you know that this is not working 100procent with it... perhaps not 1procent.
Cubase and Logic is no problem.
Just know that the faders on the BCF are loud!

was planning to use it with ableton live 7 on a macbook pro. I knew the faders are pretty noisy - not to much of a problem. think you can turn the motors off if need be?

interested to hear what the problem with the rotarys though.

No there is no script so far that i know that you can put the motors out. But hell men just crank up the volume!
With Live 7 the 2 just work without any probs. You can find template's on internet of with the build in midi learn/assign menu in live to make it work!
Keep use updated men!

If all goes well or near enough, I'll get another four and start bothering any carpentry skilled friends I know!

Maybe you could even add a jogwheel with some buttons for the transport.

This is what I have wanted Behringer to do for so long. And I've wanted to do that exact thing but the is so little time.

I'm running 3 bcf2000s via 3 usb cables now. but have never tried to integrate a bcr2000 yet.

I want to get another..now do you have to connect them with a midi cable or just with usb to the computer as if you only had one?

AFAIK, There is no documented way to string more than 2 BCFs via MIDI cables. I did not try very hard either.

Also: As far as I have tested with SONAR and the Mackie emulation, they don't like to be connected to the PC via a HUB. I think the PC is not able to discern the unit IDs.

I am running 3 USB cables to Three ports on the back of my PC which as I type this I realize is a hub, but I could not get them to go via an external USB hub.

You can remove the plastic sides and they will slide in to each other pretty nicely. Finish with a small piece of black gaffer tape and no-one will notice.

Why three BCRs? I'd say: 3 BCF's for 24 faders and program a channel strip on the BCR.

I just sold my BCR because I got something else, but I had a pretty sweet setup (for my way of working - mostly audio, no VSTi's):

top row of BCR: row-A: 4x compressor controls, 4x gate controls, row-B: 8x send level. Push=insert 1-8 bypass

16 buttons: insert 1-8 open/close window and send 1-8 on/off

the 24 encoders below acted as EQ controls (bottom row HPF, low shelf, LMF, HMF, hi shelf, LPF, input, output. Rows above are freq and Q and other stuff)

Well, folks, I'm goin' for it. That picture from th OP has been wiggin me out
all winter and up till now.

I have cardboard templates for the sides and will sorta build it as I go.
I only have a jigsaw and a lot of "want to". I should have selected the wood and be making cuts and pieces by this weekend. I am going 4 wide with 3 bcf2000s running 24 tracks and the 4th 7 buses and a master fader.
3 BCR2000s running 24 channels of EQ (2 shelves and a sweeping mid). Who know maybe a 4th bcr2000 with a driver controlling returns, or an LCD monitor. I'll decide when I get to it.

I currently have 3 bcf2000s running 24 tracks and 1 more running buses and the master. 1 bcr2000 for 8 tracks of EQ / Sends. Time to get more.

I'm Running Sonar 8.3.1 with hand rolled CS plugs for the bus BCF and the BCR EQs.

There go all the USB ports.
Oh well that's what they're for.

You can connect some of the controllers to the midi ports of a few others, this'll save you on usb ports.

It has begun.

The wood selected is Naughty Pine 1/2" $35.00 4x8 sheet.
The two sides and bottom are cut.
I elected to go lower profile than the OP picture and due to space constraints
had to forgo the riser on top. That won't be an issue in my setup. 1/2" wood to keep the weight down.

And yes, I need to clean out the garage.

Ahh Saturday. Time to begin assembling.

Here is the BCR2000 back panel with an aluminum extrusion to keep the BCR2000s from sliding further than prescribed. And the second pic is the work so far. The molding above the BCR2000s is attached with velcro so as to be able to get at the otherwise trapped surfaces. Same as the front molding.

Damn looking nice men! What are you using for transport control and scrub/wheel? Perhaps a Euphonix MC transport?
