Bang For Buck Mic Stands?

Seems like I'm looking at around $80 per stand if I want something to last (K&M), but maybe something new is out since the last low-end-theory mic stand thread (2006)?

K&M and Tama are the only choices for moderately priced stands if you want them to last.

i say go with whichever you can find good prices on and call it a day. dont bother with the cheep stuff

K&M/AKG/Beyer (all the same stand) are the only tripod stands I'll use. Ask yourself this:

Is it worth saving $30 on a stand that may just take a dump in the near future?

That "take a dump" may be falling apart (then you buy another stand and you just lost the savings in money) or having a microphones fall over (even a cheap LDC will cost you a couple hundred bucks).

In my opinion, the answer is always a resounding NO. Get a good stand. In the end, it is always worth it.

Buy Tama MS205 Boom Mic Stand online at Musician's Friend

I have 3-4 of those, they are great for $50, heck they would be great for $100. I look at it this way, tama makes stuff to hold drums in place, you would think they could take care of a 3 pound or less mic.

Cheap mic stands don't really save you money.

The boom hardware on those K&M stands is pretty awful IMO. Just a plastic bushing.

The main height clutch is also really sketchy. IME they eventually fail so you have to force the riser to go up or down.

I think it's always better to pony up now, otherwise you'll have to buy another cheapo when the first one breaks.

Hi Max,

Which stands do you recommend? I was also looking for stands to last!

Thank you in advance!

The On-stage stands I have seem to hold up alright. But I don't have monkeys setting them up or punk bands bashing them.....
