I Have No Microphones

Well, that's not true. I have an AT4050, but it's not good on my voice or my guitar cab.

I'm looking for some good bang-for-the-buck starters. Male/Female vox, guitars, drums.

I'm thinking (from reading lots):

SM7 (male vox, maybe toms?)
Baby Bottle (female vox, guitars)
SM57 (guitars, snare top)
AT4050 (Room, maybe female vox)

then I'm not sure about kick drum and overheads. maybe the standard beta52 and SP C4s?

Thanks,
Alex

i thought a SM7 was good on a kick but not good enough, could not pull much of the mid/high section out of it like i would prefer.

Mike Vick. You are one of the best to play the game but " Stay away from my Dog "

with these mics , a good room and good ear for placement
you will be fine

How's this: Shure Audix Studio Projects MXL SM57 I5 B1 Beta52 D6 - (eBay item 250156453584 end time Aug-22-07 14:53:14 PDT)
For a good starter deal? And then maybe pick up the SM7 as well?

Get another 4050 overheads, vocals guitar cab room, Acoustic.
SM7 Vocals, snare, Kick, Toms.
Sm57 guitar cab, snare, toms, pretty much anything
D112 or some other kick mic.
I haven't tried them but I'm about to get a Cascade Fathead. I think it's going to be great as a mono room mic.

the aforementioned are all great suggestions but the 4050 is a pretty good mic...are you sure there aren't other problems? What exactly don't you like about it?

I'm no expert with describing sounds with words, but it sounds too... delicate? It actually sounds OK for my friends' voice though.

But it definitely could be something else as well.

Robust lows, slightly carved mids, and nice top. A poor mans 22 47 @ $700 (it has a Peluso capsule and beefy Cinemag tranny.)
