Hardware EQ settings help?

I recently acquired an Alctron EQ73a (nearly identical to the newer EQ75a). I have messed around with it a bit, and come up with an OK vocal sound for my singing style but can't help but feel that I'm really just making guesses as to how the thing works. Can anyone point me to a simple guide that demonstrates how to use a hardware EQ like this one?

Thanks in advance!

There are a couple of approaches.

Some will pump the gain and then sweep the frequency to find things, like 'peaks' in the video, or 'muddiness' in the bass, and then lower the gain (and resonance, or 'Q') to taste.

Other do the opposite and cut the gain, and then sweep.

Others are familiar with their EQ frequency choices, a good example would be an API or Neve, and know what these bands do, so you select and adjust gain.

Once last thing, be careful of your gain staging. Subtractive EQ is very underrated and will create less of a potential for poor gain staging (unless volume ends up 'too low').
