This is for all the new peeps and old peeps sitting on their virtual cart, waitinf to buy until they hear some samples!

I also have two iSK BM900’s and one iSK Pearl!

I will post preamp, Interface converter; and mic sound samples for ALL of these items soon!

I also have a great full song of tracked drums using Sterling ST51’s as OH’s and Shure PGA56’s as close mikes! If ur interested; i have a thread posted with the song attached!!

Happy budget gear hunting!

That's a lot of exclamation marks. Were they an impulse buy - on special offer, near the register?

well! The trident unit was sold without a power supply and then all of a sudden, I see the same ad except it includes the proper power supply! That’s when I knew I was to purchase it.
The microphones were impulse buys based on earlier “obsessions” with CAD’s lesser known/discontued mics; and to make it better, the D82 is a CAD branded Recording-Tools ribbon mic which I almost bought until I realized they’re the same and the CAD will ship domestic.

The other mic, the MXL 606, and the uTrack 24, were bought solely because I found them for almost 50% their retail value and in great condition!

Exclamation marks were used because I really want to help out new people who need to sample gear before buying as I was in that boat literally up until I purchased this large stash.

My next purchases are quite scattered:
I am either going to not buy any more equipment and save up for a used TL Audio TubeTracker or Fat Track console to run the Trident preamps through, and then patch the driven signals to the uTrack 24.

Lastly, I probably will buy a pair of AA 47fet’s and call it a day for a bit. I have a cart on Advanced Audio’s website with my planned future purchases and the two that I’d consider “necessities” are the 47fet and the C800G. I actually made a promise to myself that ANY mic purchases from now on would be an effort to chip away at the cart I have set up with AA...LOL. The only mics that I promised to myself would be allowed to enter in the “mic buying list” are the Roswell Mini K47’s and the 3U 127C-Flat’s!

The reason for this strict listing is to limit excess spending resulting in well-marketed redundancy and complications. I just find that Advanced Audio, Roswell, and 3U Audio all hit on EVERY point I want in a microphone lineup/locker without any BS.
If this doesn’t make sense, then ignore me and patiently wait for my gear to arrive so I can help you make your new gear purchasing decisions!

Sorry for the long ranty post. Just trying to get all the information out there.

Lol, yeah - I was just VERY excited.
Also, I just purchased a pair of OPR 84’s, an Aistralian company who dug up a B stock pair for me.

Anyway, I’ll update the thread as things arrive and samples are ready. I just remember when I was gearing up to buy stuff and would have loved to stumble on a thread such as this with samples being posted as the items are set up.

Sorry for being overly zealous.. just my nature.

I thought it was a cardinal sin to commit a "harshing of GAS buzz".

I don’t know what this means!
Please elaborate XD

I’m just excited for all these new products! And veryyy excited to finally have made crucial, and long sought for studio purchases which a year ago I believed to be truly a fantasy; which is now my reality! I think it’s a great thinf to share the sounds that come from these products as new people in my position should greatly benefit from further posts in this thread! You feel me?

Oh, I quite fully understand your enthusiasm and I celebrate it!

The term 'GAS' stands for Gear Acquisition Syndrome. It's a "malady" that binds together the community of the Gearslutz site, and has been the subject of several hilarious threads over the years.

My response to the sarcasm was itself a joke about how our community exists primarily because of the unfettered enthusiasm of both new and experienced people in the audio (and now video) world of shared interests.

The term "harshing my buzz" or "buzzkill" has the obvious implications of someone deflating an otherwise euphoric experience.

Thanks for elucidating!
I needed that
I agree/feel all of what you’re saying!

I have that overwhelming ‘craving’ to supply this thread with sound samples, if you will.

The CAD M39, CAD D82, and the MXL 604 are in my posession after swift shipment.

I posted a mic porn post for the M39, and will post good solid photos of the 82 and 604 tonight.

Will be posting voice, guitar reamp, and bass reamp samples of both the M39 (with all polar patterns) and the D82. Along with that, will be a 604 bass reamp sample just to throw it in for context.

As well, I’ll post the DI samples of the bass and guitar that I’ll be recording using BOTH the ART TubeOpto 8 and the Trident MTA iX-one (interMix one).

The mic samples will be done using the ART and the Trident/MTA. Will provide high gain and low gain for ART, and medium gain for the Trident/MTA on mic samples.

:-) much love, all love in the studio, cannot wait for the results!

EDIT: my power supply for the uTrack24 wasn’t working so I’m sending it pack for a refund and getting a new one so I have to on that... sorry :/

Sound clips coming tonight

So after a large interface/converter hiccup, I dug up my old yet pristine M-Audio Fast Track; the second-to-newest incarnation with two preamps on the front, and a sleek white body.

I am going to do the following:
New mics (OPR 84, CAD M39, CAD D82, MXL 604, iSK Pearl, iSK BM-900) into new preamps (Trident iX-ONE, ART TubeOpto), line level into M-Audio FastTrack, into USB port on my MacBook Pro.

I will test out medium level, upper range male vocals, acoustic bass “room” mic’ing, and tomorrow, intense/loud upper range male vocals (poppunk/rock styled).

Drums will be recorded soon - most likely in 2 weeks.

Ay!
So a lot of personal and family issues have delayed my audio sample uploads however I will say the O.P.R 84 is pristine. Like a recapped and re wired CAD GXL1200 for $100 less.

The CAD D82 is my favorite mic so far.
Warm yet reaches 16khz EASY.

The ART tubeopto is QUIETER and clearer, yet also FULLER than the Trident MTA oX-ONE. I love my unmodded ART tubeopto. The Trident Toft 16preamp system is something I’d only buy if you NEED to fulfill a solid preamp rack for 12 mic drums, guitars, bass; and vocals without having to unplug and plug in new mic’s to previously used preamps.

I will say the Trident has TONS of gain!!!! Holt ****.
The ARt is a balanced, full product.
The Trident is smooth yet very loud innit’s line level output signals.

Any questions in particular?
Will upload samples soon, I promise!

Edit: will post indepth pics of all other budget friendly microphones I have.

I will also note my Cymatic uTrack 24, the most budget friendly project studio interface EVER rivaling the ESI 16x8 usb interface, is faulty so it will be serviced for full quality samples. All samples will be using DI outs from preamps into line level jacks on my spare M Audio M Track (the good, white face half rack unit. Solid sound for the money and will not detract from my sample uploads).

Funny, the Cymatic was the one thing I was most interested in. How the conversion sounds, is it easy to use, any gotchas, etc. I never thought to wonder, "How many attempts will be required to get a working one?"

Oh well. If you ever find out the answer to that question, then let us know what you think of it (the uTrack 24).
