Heritage Audio 73jr vs Elite HA73eq shootout Mono OH

First, my room is completely untreated. Second, I'm a crappy musician.

In my quest to put together a writing room in my place, I am searching for 4 great channels. I'd like two of them to be something akin to the "n" flavor. I shot out the HA73eq and the 73jr for reasons that aren't important to this thread.

Mic is a beesneez oliver fet into the ART S8, then into the two preamps going directly into line inputs on my Apollo x8 - no processing

Which clip is which preamp? There are four clips. Two of each preamp obviously.

First take - gain at 30, no pad, eq disengaged on elite. I tried to match the levels best I could on the way in and on bouncing them down. Hope I did that correctly. Which clip do you think is which preamp?

loop E and loop G

Second take - gain at 30, no pad, eq engaged on the elite but set to off and at zero for all frequencies.
Which do you think is which preamp?

loop H and loop J

Happy guessing

I guess J & G are the junior. They are a bit thicker. At least that’s how it sounds on my iPhone speaker.

Cool. Do you have some decent headphones? That might be better in this scenario.

Thanks for participating

Actually listening on headphones I'm not sure at all now. Im happy that the differences are so subtle though. All very usable.

It became more obvious when I added a kick mic through the elite. I was going to post it but the lack of interest deterred me.

the 73jr sounds more 3d to my ears. I also own an 73jr (full disclosure )

Honestly I was a little disappointed that Heritage Audio got into budget models. (Gear Snob Warning )

I correctly identified the pairs, but had them backwards.

I'm cool with that, though — there have been a lot of mixed reviews about about the Elite series stuff, so it's nice to see that it holds up. Would love to try one out!

These kinds of threads tend to...terrify people.

I'm a huge fan of them
