Black Lion Black vs Bluey

Hi all,

Was unsure if this belongs in Low End or High End, so mods can move in need be.

On the hunt for a couple of 1176s. Budget allows for about $700-$800 a piece. Been looking at the Warm Audio for a while, but also recently saw that BLA makes a couple of models. Curious if anyone had tried the black against the bluey and can share anything about their differences. I’ll most likely use them on vocals during tracking and drums while mixing.

Thanks!

Pretty sure the Bluey was just announced and hasn't shipped yet.

From what I've heard the Seventeen is quite nice though.

Haha yes, I realized that shortly after my post...

I’m sure the black is great. I think I will hold until I’ve heard some comparisons though. When it comes to plugins, I’ve always favored CLA Blue over Blackey, I find it a bit brighter which works great for me, especially on vocals. Interesting to see if this translates to the hardware unit as well, since the BLA Bluey is modelled after CLA’s own unit (which I guess the plugin is too).

I’m sure the WA76 is fine too, but when I see so many of them available second hand I get a bit wary.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, Hairball Audio makes a rack mount Rev A kit that is quite nice. I've used their FET 500 stuff and like it a lot
