Wonder if your clothes get cleaner with an outboard agitator or if stock, in the washer agitators are good enough. Someone will be along soon enough and tell us that the vintage wash boards are the cleanest. And for goodness sake, don’t use some clone made in China.

I'm no pro here; just a 20+ year Hobbyist/Musician/Computer nerd/weekend warrior type guy..

I think great tools in great hands can make something sound better.
Yes; both may get the job done...and yes stock plugins ARE getting better.

But there is a difference between some of the high end plugins vs stock.

If there was not a difference than I would imagine that all 3rd party plugins
would disappear; as no one would buy them any more??

I can't think of 1 DAW that has a stock limiter that sounds as good as Fab Filter Pro L.

A great master buss combo for us has been: Fab Filter Pro MB>Waves API2500 or Waves SSL Buss Comp>Fab Filter Pro L.

Provided no EQ is needed on the master buss; that combo will get a
mildly mixed track 90% "there" most of the time.

Personally I use stock plugs and 3rd party. Usually I do subtractive
EQ with stock plugs and additive or color EQ's with 3rd party plugs.
Or if I need a simple gate, gain or other simple task.....

With the exception of MixBus 32C's EQ and Comps (which I've stated several
times in various threads) has the Best stock plugs I've ever heard.

just my 2 cents...

There’s a huge difference in saying great engineers can make great sound with basic tools, and saying you can make a simple plug in behave exactly like a complex one.

Common sense people.....

The proof is in the pudding:
Do all pro engineers making a living with this job use third party plugins?
Yes/No?

Why, no! They don't! Wait. Maybe they do. Well, in any case, I guess it doesn't matter. Or maybe it does.

Now I'm all confused.

If by professional you mean making a living, and by making a living you mean the sole means of income required for survival, then I'm sure there's at least one engineer out there somewhere that doesn't use 3rd party plugins, thus the answer being "no".

Now, what does that prove?

Sidetrack alert!

I'm a professional baker, and we use a "proof box" to raise dough. Once, somebody spilled a bunch of custard in the proof box, and I got that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to quip: "The pudding's in the proof!"

And don't "over egg" it!
