So you HOPE the Oliver will be one of your top three.

Please report back after you’ve used it for a while. I haven’t heard any Beesneez mics, but they seem to get very positive reactions from users.

I used it all night last night with the Elly. Both were nice but the Oliver just suits my voice more than any other mic I've sung into. I'll give it a week, but I don't think the honeymoon will be over for a long long time

What the hell is wrong with you all? Most of y’all listed mics that cost well north of a grand. Some of you also mentioned baller ass preamps. API? La610? Peluso? Those aren’t low end. Quite the opposite

1. Sm57 - a surprisingly great vocal mic also great on some drums and guitars. Crushed lofi OH, anyone?

2. Oliver fet - cost me under USD$350 and is surprisingly awesome as an OH and vocal mic. Not harsh at all and punches well above it’s price tag

3. Squire classic vibe tele - better than the 1989 AVRI 52 American tele I had. I’m not ****ing around. It’s way more playable and sounds 98% the same

Plugins (low end?)
Emt 140
Waves API eq
IK black 76/ white 2a

Is it the Oliver FET or the Oliver Tube?

I have a deposit down on one , but I cant decide which, I will probably go with the FET though.

I have the Elly fet, which I assume is fairly similar to the Oliver fet? The Oliver tube really is worth the extra money. Just get the cardioid only version I reckon.

From the clips on their website, Elly sounds a little smoother than the Oliver fet because it has a transformer inside. I’d really like to have one.

My Oliver fet has a slighter roll off than the Elly because there’s no transformer. Since it doesn’t have the transformer it’s also slightly more present around 3-6 but doesn’t cross the line into piercing-sibilance territory. You can hear that on the clip on their website when that woman sings bang bang and the way “shoot” is captured. Its almost sibilant but isn’t. It’s engineered really well.

On the website, the Oliver cardioid only tube mic sounds really muffled. There is a thread somewhere on GS that gave me the same impression. I’m not sure though as I’ve never used one.

The few clips I’ve heard of the full Oliver tube sound awesome. I’d go that route if you want a tube version of the Oliver.

This is tough to narrow down...if interfaces count, I’d have to say iD22 is my favorite piece of gear, because I could happily get by with only that, a few mics and the DAW. It’s the first interface I’ve owned that I could say that about and not only is it among the small crowd of contenders that deliver, it has the best performance/cost ratio out there IMO.

Next up is the DIYRE Colour Palette. If I had to pick just one piece of hardware other an interface it’d be that. So fun and flexible.

This is where it gets tough to choose, but I’ll go with Hairball Lola’s because the Audient’s pre aren’t bad, and I could happily get by...I really do need a nice set of high grade discrete preamps and these sound really good, and are versatile and cost effective.

As for plugins, my favorites are:

Louder Than Liftoff’s “Royal Blue”

DIYRE’s “15IPS”

and HRK’s Ez Germanium EQ

It's good, but honestly for the price, there are a lot of good VA's out there. I just had to have it though.

Yeah that's what I usually conclude. I mean they don't make Triton's any more you would think you could find old parts for value but it seems they went up I would like to connect the exb-di to be able to put all channels to the daw sorely simultaneously but the price halts me Everytime.

Gear:

If we are talking legitimately low end (say under $500) then I own all three of the Klark Teknik clones (1176, LA2A, Pultec) and they are all good.

Plugins (three faves today and tomorrow it'll be different except for the Liquid Sonics):

Waves Ren Bass
Waves Bass Rider
Liquid Sonics Seventh Heaven (base version)

I'm considering these low end as I bought them used for under €500 each

1. Jomox Airbase 99
2. Akai MFC42 analog filter
3. Ensoniq DP4

I don't have any plug ins :(

Hardware I use the most:

Fender Blues DeVille
Marshall 2204
AT 4033 LDC Mic

Plugins:

Izotope Ozone 8
Waves Abbey Road chamber
Blu-verb reverb

I bought the Marshall 25 years ago for $250 when it was still legitimately "low end"

There was a thread earlier this year asking "what monitors are you using" and there were quite a few of us who had stuck with HR824's through the years. You're not alone. I'm sure I could find something better but I'm also certain I'll need to get around to room treatment before I'd appreciate the improvement properly.

Curious that the vast majority still seemed to be on the Mk 1 models. I actually had two pairs that were slightly different. My first pair had just RCA + 1/4" inputs while the pair I still have also have balanced XLR inputs, but otherwise they share the same pre-Mk 2 design.

Plenty of other posts with higher end hardware. Kind of hard to tell where to draw the line. Anyway, here is a lower end list (all under $400):

Beyerdynamic M201
SCA N72 (DIY Kit) + Hakko Soldering Iron
Ibanez Jet King
