Starved plate probably

try a 12AU7..ive built starved plate tube pedals before , the AU7s have the lowest distortion factor and a warm sound.

sorry for my incredibly general response before

The warmth probably comes from the distortion, because I think you can actually increase distortion by using reduced-distortion valves in circuits that are not optimised for them. The valves may not be running at the voltages intended if you do that, with the result that you may actually get more distortion than you would just using the stock valves. All the same, if you're looking for stuff to try, any good NOS (new old stock) US or Western-European 12AX7/ECC83 valves, 12AT7/ECC81 valves, 5751 valves or 12AY7/6072 valves would also be worth trying. NOS Mullard ECC83s are classics, but expensive.

IMO this is more or less like putting fancy seasoning on a plastic dog-turd, but here's hoping you enjoy the sounds you get.
