Need recommendation for sample-based keyboard

So the keyboardist in our band is a good guy and decent player, but his rig kinda sucks. He's also a little financially challenged at the moment.

I'm considering buying a used K2000 or K2500 and just letting him have it on indefinite loan. It seems like these go used for around $400-$500-ish.

I'm a guitarist and bassist, currently playing bass in this band. I did some dabbling with MIDI in the '80s and owned a K1000 rack unit. So I'm somewhat familiar with them.

So I'm guessing that these K series boards are probably 16-bit at best? We really need a decent grand piano, rhodes, one or two organs (a Hammond and something cheesier), vibes and clavinet. I seem to remember that the K1000 stock sounds were pretty righteous, at least back in the day.

Are there any better options in my (budget) price range?

Thanks.
