Zoom L20-R (live mixer/recorder) - anyone used it?

Our 6 piece band (2 guitars, bass guitar, drum kit, sax/flute, congas, vocals by up to all 6 at once) needs a new mixer for stage use.

The Zoom L20-R is up for consideration and any user comments would be extremely useful.

Lives for gear
I only know the Livetrak L-8 that I use for walking concerts since a week now.

Build quality is dubious, potis and faders very plasticy.
No motor faders, when changing scene or layer the level leds next to the faders show the saved position of the fader. So to change levels, you have to go to tbat position and then you can change levels.

EQ needs to be turned quite a lot until soung change occurs.

Quite noisy preamps.

Recording works well.

For my purpose its a good little mixer (battery powered!!!).

Don't know how the L20 differs in all that points, so YMMV.

Thanks for chiming in. The L20-R has to have an ipad to work it (via Bluetooth) and up to 6 extra ipads can theoretically control 6 respective monitor mixes with level and eq from the stage via wifi. However I've heard that wifi in general can be problematic with an audience in the room but have found very little user feedback on the internet about this particular mixer.

Gear Head

Hi

I got an L-20.
It uses Bluetooth to connect to an iPad. Bluetooth have a limited range, zooms says 10m.
I just checked the manual and website and don’t think you can connect 6 iPads.
You can connect 1 to control 6 separate monitor mixes.

It’s a great and simple product. You don’t get everything, but in return it’s easy to use.
