Horrified! Gamers play keys to relax?

Come on people, what are your favorite game sounds or songs or fx’s

When i was younger, I liked the industrial sound of the unreal tournament menu music along with the sound fx. Left 4 Dead 2 had some interesting music and sound fx or it coulda been all the cocaine I was doing as I racked up 1200+ hours. There was a Batman game on the original Gameboy, the second stage had this like pumping techno. A recent game that had a very interesting use of voices as you go through the game to give you this feeling of your loosing your mind and slipping into a pit of paranoia, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

I don't really remember but I googled games with best sound design, Alien Isolation popped up, I don't really remember the sound but that was a good game. (Left 4 dead came up in the search on multiple sources btw which I already listed above)

When I was in college at a music conservatory

This one blind guy always played Zelda music in the cafeteria on the baby grand

And it was really annoying because I was in high school with him lmao

Here for the gear
Definitely Portal and Portal 2. While also two of my all-time favorite games, both game's soundtracks are exceptionally good.

If you need an example, google "Triple laser phase".
There is a puzzle room in Portal 2 that has this very atmospheric sound droning on in the background - and the further you get with solving the puzzle, the more the music evolves. And as you probably don't get the right solution on the first try, you have a constantly evolving, twisted soundtrack. Brilliant stuff.

I even (legally) downloaded both game's soundtracks, something I haven't done for any other game.

The one that made every kid of the eighties dream of becoming a plumber, with all the drugs, money, violence and women that apparently involved (out of which my description was the sound of money).

The fallout series has always had a decent soundtrack. The sound engineering on gta5 is wonderfully done.

I almost can't believe noones mentioned final fantasy yet!

7, 8 and 9 all had some killer music!

I have always liked the nintendo SFX, also the music to many zelda games including the most recent one is stunning, the witcher III, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Portal 1 and 2, Skyrim, are superb sound, I actually play games listening to it through my neumann studio monitors, it's very revealing sometimes not in a good way.

not really, last time I checked there were absolutely no opportunities in audio or the gaming industry regarding sound engineering jobs.

Music-wise there are many games with memorable soundtracks, but during my recent Dark Souls binge I learned to appreciate a game without music. Depending on the game it's best to drop the music. In that regard and also in terms of sound FX the first Dead Space game also comes to mind. It's one of the best ambiences I've ever experienced in a video game in terms of tension, suspense and anticipation of what's lurking on the next corner.

I also really liked how this game approached music:
