Sending Outputs to Orion 32. ADAT vs DB25

Hey guys I'm a new Orion owner and I have a question.

I'm trying to send from my Audient ASP880 to the Orion. The Audient has both ADAT outs and DB25 outs. Both deliver 8 channels but the ADAT is restricted to 48k (which I will be using anyway, at least for the time being). I'm wondering which would provide better quality/stability? Would the DB25 out bypass the A/D stage on the Audient? Because that would be great, I'd rather not have two stages of conversion going on.

Thanks for your help!!

The Audient will also be clocked to the Orion btw

I cannot say which is better, but the conversion on the Audient AS880 is great.
If I were you, I'd record signals from both the DB25 analog outputs and the ADAT outputs to compare in your DAW

I will be doing test runs tonight.

Currently I'm Audient > 1-8 Analogue OUT > IN Orion 1-8. Bypassing the A/D.

I'll do some tests later but doesn't it just make sense to only have one stage of A/D if possible? or am I overthinking it and only audio elitists will claim to ever hear a difference?

Hi Joshua,

When using the ADAT outputs of the Audient you are feeding a digital signal to the Orion, so there is still only one stage of conversion happening.
It just takes place inside the Audient.
If you want, you can compare the sound of the Audient's A/D vs the Orion's A/D.
Please let us know which you like best
Good luck!
