Sony DMX-R110 master gain problem

My old faithful DMX has just presented me with it's first problem.

When altering the master gain a stepped digital (grunge) noise can be heard through my monitors. Despite this the actual gain level pot adjustment does work most of the time but occasionally it completely dies and an DSP error sign OxAAAAAAA8 asking me to reboot comes up on the console screen. Sometime the reboot gets the gain working again but with the digital noise described above.

My guess would be that the gain pot is warn out given it is the most used pot on the console.
Anyone had this problem? I imagine these pots are no longer available?

Many thanks in anticipation.
