AEA A840 VS N8 for classical guitar

Has anyone compared the AEA N8 microphone to a AEA 840?
They are both active ribbon mics. Which would you get a pair
of for classical guitar? or one of each?
using a buzz MA2.2 mic pre.

The N8 is so new, you'll probably find it hard to find a direct comparison for a while. I'd contact AEA directly and ask them, which will at least be a starting point.

Yeah you're going to have to just try them. Any decent dealer will send you pairs of each to compare in your own space, and you send back the one you don't want. I love AEA mics, but for classical guitar, to me it's the Coles 4038 all the way. You just have to be in an environment where you can have the mics at least 4' away, 6 is better.

N8 is fantastic. Quite different sonically from A840 if my memory serves me right. Much closer to an R88. For classical guitar I'd use the N8 before the A840 or 4038 due to its more open high end.
