In the new year, I'll be in the market for a new bass DI. Back in my early days, I always used an LA 610 for bass, which, in my opinion, was the best thing ever! But I couldn't justify keeping it at the time, as there were other problems with it (headroom, not good on much else except mono room). So I flipped it to someone who really wanted it.

My current bass DI is a modded CAPI VP26 with a DI in, into a Distressor, but it doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy like that tube saturation did. I see a lot of guys talking about the TB12 as a go to bass DI these days because of all of it's options. And I know a lot of people still use Avalon M5s too.

What are you guys rocking on Bass these days?

I have a radial JDV DI that I use for reamping purposes and the A designs Bass Reddi for a direct tone , not good for reamping though as it is more coloured . The Radial is far superior for that , but the Reddi is much better if you just want a straight DI tone .

REDDI for bass DI here. The Radial is good to have on hand too, given its price. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm curious to test the Lola DI for bass too.

My only complaint about the REDDI is that the dog barks at it. If you haven't seen one in the flesh before, it's bigger and redder than it looks in photos haha

REDDI here. I compared all the examples at the Basstasters site and picked the REDDI for my studio.

dw fearn passive direct box - pre amp according to taste.

The great thing is all options mentioned so far are great and you wouldn't be unhappy with any! I know people who prefer Radial passive DIs for bass and others who prefer tube based óptions. I think having both is best take your pick from any mentioned here. There is no weak link.

+1 the Fearn is great (I prefer it to the Radial JDI) - maybe the best passive DI.

It depends a lot on the bass and the track. Sometimes I prefer active (Avalon U5 or Radial JDV, both class A into a Burl B1D) or tube DIs. My favorite tube DI for my passive Fender Jazz Bass is the Fearn VT-3 (into a Chandler Germanium) or the DI in the Tube Tech MP2A. The REDDI is great too (unique tone, very "fat" and almost amp-like).

If I only could keep one it would be the Radial JDV (great clean tone, a lot of headroom, variable impedance and imho overall the most versatile DI).

For reamping? or Colour?

I think the Kemper Profiling Amp is the greatest thing for bass in like ...ever.

As pure DI, I love the Radial JDI more than anything. Its soo precise, and transparent which is awesome if you have a good bass.

Wondering if anyone had any experiences with using Tech 21's RBS and RBI together as a combo for DI purposes?

Ditto - REDDI is the killer, second I prefer the EBS micro - Sounds close to the reddi but reddi has a slightly more "open" top

I used to use the same thing and always loved it over reddi and others. Now I just use the DI,s on my Tonelux console...sweet, especially with the TILT

My favorites are the Eclair Evil Twin and the Reddi. I really want to try the Jule Monique.

My exact setup as well...probably hasn't changed in 4-5 years.
