reissues or vintage.
well it's not too easy finding 2 vintage 3a's that stereo match.
I've tried.I have 3 that all sound different.

A little behind the curtain (or rather under the hood) chicanery?

I'll bet it still sounds good, even though it looks a little impotent on the inside...

But I just had it rebuilt to the newer version.
guess what?
I prefer the sound of the newer unit!

when comparing the proto to the stock unit i think they really just tidied the thing up. except for the big t4b cell. which seems to be gone in the stock unit... i guess they designed their own.
personally i find it hard to accept ribbon cables and molex connectors in a unit this expensive, but that might just be me. still, the new pcb just looks like a neat version of the proto.

Yep. I bet it sounds good too. I'd even like to have one. But, the intimidating look draws a lot of people in, warranted or not.

I'd be willing to bet that there are probably as many of these with doctors in their bonus rooms as there are in pro studios. "Bad ass looking piece priced at the top of the market? Must be good. I'll pick one up...cash."

...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Lmfao these comments are hilarious!

But let's not forget, ultimately it's about the sound and it sounds excellent IMO.

cool.
yeah I've been chasing and fixing the vintage crap for years.
since the mid 80's when I was young and crazy, started racking the API stuff.
now at 52 years old,its just kind of exhausting to me now.
consecutive serials ,perfectly matched, the right transformers etc, etc.
after getting my A range and Helios modules up and running properly this year I'm kind of over it.old stuff sounds pretty good but kinda sucks too. lol.
now I just want things that sound good and work consistently,be it hardware or plug ins.like new stuff w/ warranties and support.
the SHMC is right there.
