Expand ULN8 (more preamps)

Hey,

Need to have more pres, at least 4 more.
ULN8 preamps are great, but they are totally clean.

I think it would make sense to have some pre-amps to get some nice character.

I've been looking to AMS Neve 4081 and Focusrite ISA 428 or even the 828 with 8 channels. I know i'll get some nice character from the neve pre-amps. Not sure about the Focusrite.

I do however value quality over quantity

Anyone could recommend any less known boutique companies to take a look ?

Thanks
Alex

To afford my ULN8 (pre LIO) I sold off my 2882 and a rack of N72's (Neve clones). I wish MH had come out with the LIO at the same time as the ULN8 and I still had those N72's running though the LIO backbone. Damn that would be nice!

I am very satisfied with my ADT (TM151) preamps. Very fast and clean but with Haufe input transformers, excellent built quality (and customer support), huge headroom and extremely low noise. I like them much better than the pres in the ULN and there are reasonable priced (about 400 € per channel plus frame and linear PSU). The PSU is great - I even ordered another ADT PSU for my ULN-8.

I would think adding the ISA's would be a lateral move. Adding a Daking IV would be a nice start

That 511 looks interesting and feels a good choice for my setup.
What about color? that "Texture" knob looks interesting

to be honest, i don't mess w/ it that much 'cause i nearly only
record dialog and/or vocals.

but yeah, it's a bonus. as is the continuously variable low-cut. i chase the 511 w/ a "chop-shop" filter/tilt and then a Great River PWM-501 compressor. bang. instant channel strip of the gawds.
