New Dangerous Audio Compressor

I am not much of an compressor guy especailly not with the mastering process I prefer transparency, I think this unit will be among the highest in the leauge of transparency of every detail especially if have the same sonic qualities of there monitors controllers.

The Dangerous Compressor - Dangerous Products - Dangerous Music

Simple:

Hit your choice of buttons and twist the threshold for radio-ready results

Smart Dyn Dual Slope Detection: Automatically limits peaks while stealthily compressing the average.

Auto Attack/Release: Replace "guess" with "yes" for rapid-fire results.

Transparent:

Performs like an automated fader: No more drawing vocal rides.

True Stereo Dual Detector: Traditional linking shares one detector, often resulting in a narrower stereo image.

Immaculate VCA: Virtually no distortion, even with 20dB of gain reduction.

Powerful:

Internal sidechain circuitry houses the audiophile soul of the compressor:

Bass Cut: Tightens the track without sacrificing the low end.

Sibilance Boost: Shave sibilance and shrill histrionics with zero post-compression hangover.

Estimated Release Date:

First Quarter, 2014

I think you want a really transperent compressor with deep respect for your source sound this will be the best choice, if you consider Dangerous audios general philosophy regarding audio

I'm absolutely floored by this box. If you have any questions, or want me to try anything out with it, let me know, I'll happily run some audio through it.

This is a FOH console output of a show I did this weekend

Great sounding live mixes! As a live sound guy for 20+ years I give you kudos! What console were you using?

The comp sounds great too!

The DM versions sound so good. It makes the kick and snare tight and upfront. But still keep the space open and the high end clear. They also make the piano sit really well. A lot of stuff jumps out at me and sounds powerful in the DM compressed versions.

Cool you like it! I am actually interesting in buying this one eventually when I can afford it. It seem like a good mastering compressor to put on your mix.

Well I hope you would be willing to share more samples of it.
it hard to give you specifics, but as I am to use it on full mixes that is the most intersting aspect for me, I would love to see if the music is still dynamic even if you increase to more extreme settings or of it feels brickwalled.

Though the Dangerous compressor seems like a great clean comp with horrible looking meters, it is a one trick pony. Personally I would rather have two Dave Hill Titan compressors that can be just as clean with better metering but can add color on tracks as well

For me it is probably between these two..would love to compare them.
Regarding color, I can't really say I have any desire to have the compressor to add color, I think other parts in the chain such as EQ can do that. For me it is more important that it sounds dynamic and detailed and just good in general...even when you drive it hard.

I might be in the minority and I'm not about to judge a compressor without demoing it, but from this example I can hear compressor artifacts that I find not flattering. Especially for -1.5 dB.

It's most evident to me in the kick drum. In the "B" file, in both examples with the compressor, I can hear it doing something to the kick I don't like. It's almost making it pillow-like. Or like it's sucking the thump out of the kick. In the uncompressed examples, the kick hits me in the chest. In the compressed ones, it feels "hollow" if that makes any sense.

I'd still be willing to hear more.

Regards,
Frank

Also please keep in mind, this is just "one" setting of many, there is many settings for this box.. including the auto dynamic mode...

I think the whole idea about this box, is that should not sound like a compressor at all, more like a "leveler" it should sound like you just move the volume knob up and down (but in clock speed). But yeah, lets not judge by just one setting..

1.5 db is not that much btw.

My comments would agree with the sound being a little too smacked , and the drums do sound changed a bit too much . I really love the sound of the uncompressed mix . what were your settings ? Maybe try the lowest ratio , fastest attack and hardly .5 db of reduction , to set it up more as transparent leveler .

That's why I said in spite of what I heard I wouldn't judge a compressor without demoing it.

I know, which is why I said I was surprised to be hearing artifacts so soon. I would attribute what I heard to hitting the compressor much harder.

Nevertheless, again, I'd demo it before I made a final decision.

Frank

I tried it for a couple of days I love it so far - Nothing I don't like yet, but I had to leave to go out of the country to work on a show. I am also waiting for my BLA Mod to come back - So I will not have a chance to put it through it's full paces for another 12 days.
