Does anybody who lives around the corner want to go in and do some IRs of the Stone Room in Studio 2. at least for posterity.

Very good idea, it's sad that big studios close, let's try to sample at least the acoustics!

I live "round the corner" from The Manor, which was the other half of the business (before thay closed that a few years ago).

phillysoulman 26th February 2008 05:02 PM

Geez, is Mayfair still open?
I loved that studio.

PhilE 26th February 2008 06:35 PM

I thought they pulled the stone room out of there years ago cos it wasn't the cool sound anymore?

brutze 26th February 2008 06:58 PM

Well, I'd suspected as much based on the lack of mentions on their website and so on. But... This sample CD was recorded there...
http://www.zero-g.co.uk/index.cfm?articleid=192

It was certainly recorded at least a couple of years ago.

I wrote an email to them asking about this so we'll see.

Anyone else with inside knowledge on the stone room?

AKAT-1 27th February 2008 11:22 AM

Sorry to burst your bubble guy's but that stone room was indeed ripped out because nobody wanted to use it- much to the dismay of certain producers...

Huge shame that another big studio is going- I was working In Whitfield Street when they came in and kicked everybody out- they were actually changing the locks as I was carrying my speakers out!

raal 27th February 2008 11:28 AM

AKAT-1,
what the hoohay is in your avatar?

brutze 27th February 2008 11:40 AM

Pop!
That's a shame on both counts.
Is it even remotely possible that somebody has an IR of that room somewhere?
Is it possible to make an IR out of a snare hit?

Ach well. Too bad.

Great studio from an acoustical point of view....the less said about certain other factors the better!

Yes it's still open (a friend's in there at the moment) but I think the long term plan is to sell it and move to Kentish Town - apparently they have a building there too.

It's another weird building though - there's little natural light, so you're kind of limited as to what it could be turned into.

I worked there for a while, and acoustically it was very good, although I've heard better spaces. They also have a very nice preamps (1063 - not 1073!) which connected to pultec then to old la2a with some mysterious deeser modification produced killer vocals.

Absolutely nothing on that page looks like anywhere even remotely close to anything that could be considered a good deal.

That would be $20,000. They're asking 9,900 pounds.

Why do band think they can record at home?

Jack P 9th April 2008 08:17 PM

Are their mastering rooms shutting or just the recording studios ??

Wasn't the whole place owned by 'Sanctuary', who went bankrupt ?

I dont think that´s the reason. I bet none of the bands that have this thinking would have recorded ever in Townhouse. We are speaking of world top studios, not local top studios, they dont play with small bands.

How do you guys get in touch with Funky Junk?

I've sent emails and emails and no replies. Is calling the only way these days?

In the old days they would contact you right away.hidz

Calling does tend to work much better with them.
