They actually sound pretty detailed and focused in my room but when I started mixing with them the headroom for mix decisions, eq, compression, pan etc was too big and subtle adjustments was definitely harder to hear as clearly as I can on the higher end models. They have very low distortion but I also noticed that they did not reveal subtle distortion artifacts as clearly as I would want. The balance between 2d and 3d is too 2d in my opinion and not true to the source imaging vise. They have good options for eq calibration in less than ideal rooms which the high end models often don't provide. I think they are priced very correctly according to the performance and I would not hesitate to recommend them for use in a budget studio.

All of these opinions is based on my experience with five times more expensive monitors and are not meant to drag the 8000 series down at all. The point was to learn what to expect of improvement when spending 4-5 times more on a set of speakers.
The mix I did on the Genelecs turned out pretty good but overall it was to wet and too bright when listening on other systems. I guess these aspects can be learned but it will never be as accurate as a speaker that provides the correct balance regarding these qualities in the first place.
Hi Audiovisjon,

Any plans to review Genelec 8351A? I would really like to know your opinion about these coaxial speakers and also your thoughts about their SAM room correction technology compared to your Trinov.

when I win a mixing competition soon, I am going to sell everything including my soul just to own geithain's, they seem like the holy grail of monitoring!... either that or ATC's....then I can die happy and go to audio nirvana heaven.

hi

question here for owners of Amphions ..(Mainly for audiovisjon - thread starter)

After a big hype here on amphions, how do they do now ?..looking after
longer evaluation time and many succesfull mixes - I guess ..
Or did anybody already switched to something else more "hypish"..
Checking audiovisjon's profile on GS I can see only Geithans were the keepers..

If you go to the Amphion...beautiful thread you will very quickly see that no one is selling their Amphions yet.

True ... I've seen only a pair sold on e-bay...till now
It was mainly ment as my observation remark to his (audiovisjons)
GS studio profile, I taught he still uses amphions beside Geitans ...
He is afterall some-kind of a legend , by trying so many near-fields
and a big influence on ...where to look at, when its about hiend near-fields.

He bought the ME-Geithain RL 801K and the RL 944K-1.

The RL 901 is designed for a listening distance of 2 to 4 metres. The 801 is the same size, but is designed for a listening distance of between 3 and 6 metres and has more powerful amplifiers and a different tweeter arrangement.

It makes me think ... the quest is over ....
1st place Geithains, 2nd place Amphion ...others left far behind?
Or was it something else to influence his final decission?
I would like to hear audiovisjons final word about this ... if possible...

He did not speak less of the Amphion speakers at all (lots of praise in all aspects). This was what he had when I visited. I can only say that I never heard music (and he played several different styles of music for me) in that way before or after.
It haunts me in my dreams (in a good way)
All the best.

If it helps, I have both Geithain RL944Ks and Amphion One18s, and I couldn't be happier with both. They work great together, and contribute their own thing to the big picture.

Both are incredible speakers in their own right, that have really helped me take my critical listening to a level that I didn't realize existed!

Any of the One15 users knows about any kind of bag to transport which fit them ala Genelec or Focal ones?

First - ask Amphion.

If they don't do a bag, then go to a specialist manufacture and get one made.

I use KTS - I tell them what I want and they come up with the bags.

This is what they do for me:-

For a pair of Geithain RL906

This is the one for the Geithain RL944K:

The description:
The SLB 944K is an optional carrying bag, specially designed for the RL 944K for ease of movement for the studio that needs to carry the RL 944K to location, to give maximum protection at an affordable price.

Construction is a tough 2-layer fabric sandwiching an Astroboard sheet (outer) and tough foam (inner). These cushion the monitor and the tough Astroboard minimises any damage due to knocks, etc.. Extra foam cushions are on the front and rear internal panels to protect the drivers and rear amplifier.

The design incorporates a zipped cable area on the top with an Astroboard base to prevent the cables damaging the top of the loudspeakers.

Carring handles are included - these incorporate side handles and a padded top handle. The base has tough sewn-on rubber feet.

Each bag holds a single loudspeaker.

I hope this helps.

Agree. I use 922 as sort of "full range" mains (almost, its 3db at 30Hz) enough for my edm bass music, and the One18 as nearfields. Geithains for production mojo/tracking and for "feeling" the big PA bass effect, and Amphion for super focused mixdown. I could easily live with just One15s though. Actually I want them too..lol! My partner has them, and they are sooo damn tight and focused.. However I need more distance in my own room, so One18 for now as they work better here.

And BTW David (Audiovisjon) is also using both regularly, but sometimes he has different configurations up because as a reseller he has a lot of product demos and also students in his room, so what is up while you are there visiting is not necessarily what he himself is working on the next day.

I am back with a confession, that David (Audiovision) uses Amphion speakers, and that the Geithians were out there for demo reasons when I was there. I am sorry for the misguided information. No harm intended from my end.
All the best.

My understanding is that he has the Geithain RL 802K as his main monitors (soffit mounted) and the RL 944K1 as his nearfields - but he also has the Amphion nearfields as well and uses both.

surprised nobody picked up on this...

these take the Geithain's directivity and relative, room 'independancy' to another level

Great monitors. I really liked them when Ï heard them. I heard them multiple times (at the reseller and we audtioned them in the studio also).

I seriously considered purchasing them, only listening to them from a 'nearfield distance' does not serve them well.. In midfield I liked them way better! They are simply no nearfields monitors.

In the end I purchased Geithains. Due to the fact that I listen in nearfield, and due to the cristal clear midrange reproduction of the Geithains, which keeps sucking me up

Wow! I've read most of Keith Holland's speaker reviews, with great delight! Why listen to a speaker when you can measure it? Because it's close to being 100% objective. :-)

This must be the most generous speaker review he's written, showcasing the quality of the Two18.

He ends it with: "in short, this loudspeaker appears not to fall down on any aspect of performance covered in this review."

No small words - coming from him.

Cheers

Why because a mic and a software are not a guy or a girl with his subjectivity in a room with his acoustics issues.
