of the mics I have used I'd have to say Lauten Atlantis. It sounds great on everything I have tried.
Drums, acoustic guitar, clean/dirty/filthy electric guitar, male/female vox, rappers.

If all I had was a 57 or 58 I would have to use it to kill myself.
(This is easily the most gearslutty thing I have ever said)

So are you saying that the 57, and 58 are killer mics?

Sennheiser MD 441-U.

Rugged, LPF filter options, HF emphasis, and more than able to flwlessly record ANYthing. I have 4!

Just bear in mind it's super-cardioid and pops can be an issue with some singers.

regards,

I don't know which desert island you guys are talking about, but on my desert island, microphones grow on the tree's, which are made of mic preamps, so you don't need any wires to connect them..its a stock configuration,

+3, though I only have a pair of the UMT-70s's. Good on everything, great on many things. Of course, I've never used an M-49...

441 actually IS my Desert Island mic for islands, caves, stairwells, and other cool-sounding rooms w/o electricity. 441 + Sony PCM D1 is my mobile mini-rig. You could probably get photovoltaic panels to recharge the AA batteries, and then you really would have a high-end desert island solution.

Beyer 260. It is similar to a 57 in the fact that it can be used on almost any source, but obviously several steps up. If I had only them to record I would be quite happy.

me too. the 421 record was a milla jovovich thing for mercury that I dont think ever got released, which is really unfortunate because it sounded incredible. 421 in the right hands is such a total do all microphone and not in a simply workhorse type of way either.

For me in this situation I can only go one of two ways.

Either a Josephson C617 with a Mk211 capsule into my Stagetech Truematch converter.
or
A Neumann D-01 Solution D microphone

Honestly... Anything else and I might as well be cast away at sea with no means for survival.

It's really a shame how some music just sits on a shelf somewhere...

AKG C34. BTW the GS description is wrong if you click on the link. It uses small diaphragm capsules.

On the fence about pulling the trigger on a U67 reissue.

Doesn't matter. But if you're buying a U67RI - get an Amperex EF86 or a Telefunken 806s tube for it!

Makes ALL KINDS of difference!

I'd want Frank's U48 at Capitol. Then eventually they'd find me on the Desert Island that way.
Hopefully shipwrecked with a "Mary Ann" type. (like her back in the 60's).
Then again, maybe just a pristine 44 Ribbon instead. We might not be in a rush!

Even with other great mics on hand, my 67 Reissue after the capsule was vintage tuned will work on anything. Ie. C725 can be better/sweeter, but I know I could set-up the 67 knowing it will always sound great. If we are allowed EQ on the island, I could dial in a touch of high or air from Michelangelo IF required. Haven’t needed to do that to date.

RIP Dawn Wells. She seemed like a total sweetheart, as a person too...
