Hmmm.. Ok and thank YOU as well for the compliment on two of my CD's. Wow I feel all choked up now. So here's another Eddie Kramer story:We're doing the basic tracks in Florida for ATL and we are all toast from a day/night long session. We were alway's hunting for the elusive tone of doom in those days. So we pack it up and into the van to go back to the hotel on Ft.Lauderdale's beach. It's the weee hours of the night and Eddie is laying down in the back of the van crashing out and thinking about his Flan he made may tech go get him. We are all in the van and leaning on each other half asleep listening the radio and the Zep song "The Ocean" starts, with that killer drum sound of dooooom! Bonzo ! Yeah !It's silent in the van. I'm thinking "wow, how the hek did the guy in the back of the van and Page get that sound." All of a sudden I hear his voice come from the floor " THREE MICS". and he went back to sleep. I asked him the next day the details and in fact, three mics! I swear I'm going to kill him! He has the best stories I have ever heard. I Love Eddie Kramer and his body of work. :-)

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia is production wise my all time favourite. Fear of a Blank Planet is the second one.

I also love the sound of dream theaters six degrees of inner turbulence. It seems thats their first full digital PT album but I really dig the sound. Fat, warm and natural. Especially the drums sound very good.

Heavy Rock... well, people used to call Led Zeppelin "Heavy Rock"

What I consider heavy rock, I would have to say my favorite is the debut Velvet Revolver album, "Contraband."

They did not double all the guitar parts, so a lot of people thought it sounded grainy or thin. To me, it sounds like huge guitars that jump out of the speaker and cut your head right off your neck. Listen to the grammy winning, "Slither" those guitars are the thickest crunch I have ever heard. And no parts are doubled. Everyone pounds the main lick, but no one is doubling their parts to thicken them up. The entire song is played on one string on the bass. The drums sound like real drums, not hyped. Hairy stuff. Their new album sounds much slicker and everything technically, in gearslutz land, sounds "better recorded/mixed" but it has NO bite and IMO it is boring. CONTRABAND RULES!!

Here for the gear

Song's / Albums that changed me as an artist and my musical direction in life:

Definately tied for 1st Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime (still listen to it quite often) and Empire

While not really "metal" Warrant - Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinkin Rich and Cherry Pie (especially Uncle Tom's Cabin)

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (Mainly just that song, something clicked the first time i heard it.. i was young heh)

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons (i love 20 min epics and too lesser extent Images and Words

Metallica - ...and Justice for All

Tool - Undertow and Ænima

Extreme - Pornograffiti .. I've always loved Nuno's sound.

Plese don't laugh all ... Winger..., like i said i was young lol and just starting to stretch my musical legs.

I'm sure there's lots more, but my brain hurts from thinkin that far back hahah.

ACDC/Highway to Hell -- This song never stops kickin ass.
Black Sabbath/Black Sabbath
Judas Priest/You Got Another Thing Comin
Led Zeppelin I
Metalica/Black album
Ozzy/Ozzmosis
Ozzy/No More Tears

ACCEPT -- side note
a few years ago I met Peter Baltes the bass player for Accept. Turns out he lives just down the road from me. We've become good friends and he's graced a few sessions with his talents. It is a bit funny hanging out with him during the day doing "normal" stuff then seeing him late night on MTV on Metal Moments with his hair down to his butt dressed in leather. Great guy...very talented.

I can't wait till the new studio is built. We will have the ability to do the Beinhorn 'Super Analogue' thing.... 2" 8-track at 7.5 i.p.s. The bottom is so big on that album. In fact, I am going to burn a CD of it to listen to today. Good Call!!!

Just another fan Gush. I saw you guys play at the Bayou in Washington DC just before Anthrax got big. I was not even a big fan at the time, but it was one of the best live shows I have ever seen in my life.

Failure -- Fantastic Planet
Shiner -- Lula Divinia
Jesu -- Jesu
Isis -- Panpticon
Hum -- You'd Prefer an Astronaut (or the better-produced but musically weaker Downward is Heavenward)

Thank you for mentioning Misery Signals. I think that they have really gone for something different and more refined in the somewhat stagnant/cookie cutter scene of current metal/hardcore production.

Also, even though I may be burned at the stake for saying so, I really dig Killswitch Engage's albums (Adam D does quite the job)...

Thank you. I'm glad you had an experience you still remember to this day. It looks as though your skills and love for music and its artistic creation have brought you so much over the years (as well as a nice API lunchbox!). Nice to meet you.
