Royer 101 with Amek 9098 mic pre

Just wondering if my Royer 101 will work at its best with my Amek 9098 mic pre? Is there going to be an ohms mismatch issue? thanks in advance

It should be great. The AMEK has at least 70db of gain, should be plenty. The EQs on those strips are pretty killer too.

I owned one of these and used it with an R101 for guitar cab - great preamp with plenty of gain and a nice combination for that.

thanks guys...thats why I bought the 101, for cabinets...

would a preamp with variable ohms options really make a difference?

I'm no expert - it might but I would think that mic placement would make much more of a difference.

The Amek 9098 mic pre is under rated, in my opinion. The Royer 101 should sound GREAT with the 9098 as it has plenty of gain and is very quiet. I am not sure it's worth paying a lot more to get a mic pre with variable impedence for the Royer 101, the 9098 will work just fine. I will say this much, if your electric guitar recordings don't sound good with this combo, it's not your equipment at fault.

The impedance thing may someone alter the tone of the mic, but its certainly not necessary.
