I rarely use an EQ on the kick. Just use any decent 'kick type' mic, inside the kick, and a Yamaha subkick on the 'outside', tweak the placement of both a bit by ear...
done deal!
Doesn't the fact that you're using a subkick mean that you have to use EQ? There's absolutely nothing useful above like 150Hz captured by a subkick.
I've been finding that 1073 types aren't able to dig deep enough for my liking when mixing. Totally great for tone as a preamp and adding things on the way in. But an e series is all about shaping the mojo that you cranked up on the way in! Maybe I need to investigate 1081 or the GR N eq ?

Wiggy
I have to say that I own and use both the 1081 and the great river.
They can get close, but I still end up using the SSL after it or if ITB the Massenburg MDW5 eq
1084 - thick in the lows / smooth in the tops - pushing the input gain just gets better all the way to the top of the input gain except maybe the last click which is too much and pretty noisy. LPF sounds super natural with high shelf boosts. perfect for cymbals high hats
1081 - Higher fidelity sound than the 1081 but with a somewhat harder edge when boosting the high end - fantastic for scooping out mud frequencies.
a Low end to DIE for.
GR - definitely the hybrid it was designed to be - contains all the best qualities of the 1084/73 with the fidelity of the 1081.
Doesn't quite have the balls of either but better than both for use as a stereo eq - less noticeable phase shift.
Cheaper than the Neves and I would suggest is a bit more useful as a general purpose eq.
I like something that can get out low mids and boost lows. A pultec is great on the low end, and it's nice to boost that at tracking and make more calculated cutas at mix. But I really like an SSL eq. E in particular. I like the low frequency bell curve option. But the Freq/3 option is noce on the low mid band of the G if you need to get out 10-200hz woof.
