SSL 4000 G+ bus compressor - the make it sound like a record button.
48ch of SSL on the console - all sorts of stuff and very handy
Amek 9098 dual comp/lim - great 'housekeeper' for tracking. Use it a lot on the Soundfield inputs and for my CP80 piano.
LA2A - Bass, vox
1176 - Bass again, guitars and anything that requires that treatment.
Distressors (x2) - Kit OHDs and anything that needs to be 'ruined'
Drawmer 1968 - best cheap unit on the market IMHO - Drum sub mix with the big switch on.
Tubetech CL 2A - Guitars of all kinds, BVs and anything really
Avalon VT 747SP - I really will put just about anything through this. Great device.
DBX 165 - old stuff
DBX160 - hardly use this nowadays. Perhaps I should.

Brutal

Aphex Dominator II (722, broadcast options). Totally out of fashion, but this puppy can put the hammer down on a complex signal. Even with "no lights lit" (less than 1.5dB action), it does "something". Technically, it's a multi-band peak limiter.

If you adjust so that voice peaks are lighting all indicators through a close RE-20, you sound like a Clear Channel announcer. Whoo hoo!

Rane DC-24, several of them. Compression. Nothing special, no "warmth" from toobs, transformers, opto, just SS comp/limit. Must use eq on sidechain.

dbx 166 (not A or XL). dbx VCA's at work. Works on most anything. No toobs, or transformers. Side chain is a good thing. Using both channels in series is a good thing.

A Langevin AM-16 isn't really a compressor, but it's vintage transformer in and out, with DC-coupled discrete transistors inside.

Lightbulb filiments. Really, incandescent lightbulb filiments are massively non-linear and cheap. Telephone repeat coils driven by hi-fi power amplifiers give a nasty clip.

I'm still looking for a surplus Orban broadcast super-maximizer-phase-mangler-com-lim-crush-decimater. It'll sound like radio fer sure.

Cheers, with a high-end cheapness.
